Dr Sommer was hired by 3sHealth /SHA to discredit my 11 year battle for disability benefits. And managed to explain away all old injuries my back injury and chronic pain. Also saying that I could work and be on the Palliative care list at the same time totally disregarding all information from my doctors and specialists. Disgusting. His opinion is for the insurance company or whomever is paying regardless of your health issues.

I had a very good experience with Dr Sommer. I have a large synovial cyst on my spine that gives me awful pain in the right leg and I need an injection with cortisone.
dr Sommer was very helpful, answered my questions in a polite manner and with patience.
Dr Sommer was direct, at the point, professional and knowledgeable. I didn't even had to wait too long to see him (a few weeks) and I was schedule for an injection in 3 weeks, so not long waits at all. Bernice and the other lady at the reception treated me well with compassion. My problem is that if the injection is not going to work, the wait for a minimal invasive surgery on the spine to remove the cyst in Manitoba is several years. It is years of waiting to see a neurosurgeon. But the experience with Dr Sommer was very good, beyond my expectation.

He's a pretty good pain Physician. Excellent skill in X ray guided Cortisone Injections. Pleasant and Informative. Doesn't sugar coat, so if you're out of shape he will tell you. Lets face it back problems never get better if you don't exercise. The muscles of the back support and align the spine. A comprehensive back pain management program must include an extensive exercise program and weight management. Start with stretching and walking, eventually kettlebell swings, baby steps at first. you'll be amazed.

I would not recommend this doctor to anyone including my worst enemy. He dismissed my pain, told me to loss weight, exercise and ever worst, stop all medications. I wish there was a way to stop MB Health from paying him for this consultation.

I had my spinal injection this am. Dr. Sommer was very professional, straight to the point and the procedure was quick without any discomfort. It's nice to be treated by a doctor with such skill. These complaints in other posts about him not wanting to listen to people give their own diagnosis show their failure to be willing to help themselves. By telling them that weight and fitness are primary issues requiring to be dealt with is not about bedside manner, it's about open HONEST and efficient delivery of excellent and professional medical treatment. We don't always want to hear the truth but denying it and whining on this page helps no one. We need more doctors like this and a medical system that supports them, not one focused budget cuts.

Excellent Dr. He treated my husband back at the Pan Am clinic after being Referred by Dr M Johnson.
It was a long referral wait but once we had our first consultation, weeks later treatment was administered.
Thank you to Dr Sommer and his office staff for the excellent care.

This is the worst doctor I have ever been too, I have been suffering back pain for 3 years now, MRI shows degenerate disc disease in the spine, arthritis and an angular tear, I was hoping I could get help from him, but all I got was fat shaming (which by the way I am not) He more less told me the pain was in my head and there’s nothing he can do but for me to loose weight!!
My family doctor, as a last resort prescribed me morphine at a low level, to help control the pain which is closely monitored, and advised against physical therapy until I find the right amount of mg , that I can move without pain in order to actually do physio, he made me feel like a drug addict and all I wanted was narcotics! He didn’t even look at my back/ hips or even where I told him the pain was, he skipped the most important part. He told me I should be on a certain antidepressant For the pain, which I was in the beginning and found no relief.
I told him I woke up one day in extreme pain, and MRI showed a herniated disc, and ever since then I have not healed, he told me a herniated disc doesn’t case prolonged pain! Well guess again because I am in pain every single day eating at about a 6 on good days and 10 on bad days. I have to use a walker on my bad days and on the better days I use a cane, I am 39 years old, I am healthy and before the herniated disc I was playing baseball, boxing and jogging and working a full time career that I love.
I went there for help, I asked him “ so there’s nothing you can do to help me” he said no, lose weight and go to physio.
My MRI also showed a tare and I brought that up, he said people have tares all the time and it doesn’t mean anything! So he won’t even look any further into it!
He treated me like garbage, I left that office in a bawl of tears, I only wanted help, but instead I was classified as a overweight drug addict Who only wants to abuse the system. I would never recommend this “ doctor “ to anyone, if you want good care, don’t go to him. I give him a 0 rating, if I could go lower I would. A horrible “ doctor “

I wouldn’t recommend this dr he doesn’t listen To you & rushes won’t repeat what he said 100 miles per hour and if your in pain he just recommends first of all stop smoking, exercise & diet
I was a trainer so all the stuff I was doing before the health issues and am no longer working because I can’t exercise because of the pain then he says don’t take your medication it doesn’t work he says but wants to suggest mind altering prescriptions that have worse side effects I assume he must get a good kick back as that was almost a year wait to drive an hour and a half One way to get maybe 15 minutes of basically aggravation to came out In pain still
