First operation was a failure, told me post op pain was in my head, finally had cat scan to show a bone graft had not knitted properly and had 2nd operation, thank god that worked and have had relief for the last 30years, I guess I’m one of the lucky ones, but true he was an insurance vulture

hes a butcher reqd his profile, he killed a patient and voluntary gave up surgical procedures thanks god. hes been charged for carelessness and this is who asessess for insurance lol. you will only get a rude bias assesment from this lifeless pick!

The State Administrative Tribunal convicted Philip Hardcastle of gross carelessness.
Harcastle practised as an orthopaedic surgeon and was registered with the Medical Board of Western Australia in terms of the Medical Practitioners Act 2008 (WA). He is currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in terms of the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (WA) Act 2010 (WA).
On or about 29 November 2006 Hardcastle performed surgery on the patient to remedy the patient's compression fractures with a posterior spinal fusion involving the fixation of rods and screws.
Following the surgery the patient continued to consult with Hardcastle.
In or about October 2007 an xray revealed the patient had a collapsed vertebra and loose screws, and a CT scan and bone scan showed the patient had a fracture through the Tl1 vertebra.
On or about 31 October 2007 Hardcastle recommended to the patient a revision of the surgery.
On or about 31 October 2007, the patient had a history of:
(i) osteoporotic crush fractures;
(ii) osteopenia;
(iii) failure of internal fixation with non-union in respect of the surgery; and
(iv) bone density problems, two strokes and falls, and peripheral vascular disease.
On 21 December 2007 Hardcastle performed the revision surgery.
During the course of the revision surgery:
(i) Hardcastle was assisted by Dr Matthew Scadden, the assisting surgeon;
(ii) Hardcastle removed the upper screws;
(iii) screws were inserted at level Tl0 with the respondent carrying out the procedure on the left side and Dr Scadden on the right side;
(iv) Hardcastle commenced the procedure at level T9 on the left side and in the process of using the tap to make a path for the screw.
During the operation, Hardcastle applied downward pressure causing the bone to give way and the bone gave way resulting in the tap moving forward into the patient.
A screw was inserted on the right side of level T9 without incident and an intraoperative xray was taken. The patient's blood pressure dropped immediately after the xray was taken and the patient required resuscitation, which proved unsuccessful.
A cardiothoracic surgeon was called and a thoractomy was performed with several attempts made at draining blood from the pericardium.
A midline sternotomy was performed and the pericardium was opened, a hole was identified in the coronary sinus and was sutured and the patient was shocked but no rhythm was established.
The patient was declared dead by the assisting surgeon at 11.32 am. The cause of death was recorded as 'penetration of heart during surgical procedure'.
Hardcastle voluntarily ceased all surgical practice with effect from 1 July 2009.
The State Administrative Tribunal ordered on Hardcastle's registration to not perform any surgery. He was also ordered to pay $10,000 in costs.

He is a great doctor. Very knowledgeable and caring. A good surgeon does not need to be overly caring, so if you are one of those people faking an injury to get an insurance payout and wanting to live the rest of your life on centrelink payments then ha ha ha. No honest orthopedic surgeon would be to your liking.
If you want sympathy and a fake diagnosis then go to a naturopath !
The only downside - he is not always punctual because he is so busy seeing patients.
An excellent doctor to learn from if you are a student. Very respectful. Not snobby at all. Keen to teach.

This man might have been an ok Dr when he wasn't working for insurance companies but now not so. I agree with the others on here. He causes more pain than you walked in with and doesn't seem to care! Patients well fair should be the priority not the insurance companies. I would not see him again no matter what. Dr Hardcastle same on you. People if you can choose your insurance Dr don't even think of this one he is the pr $ ck the others said he is. AVOID THIS AMBULANCE CHASER if you want to get a good outcome. IMP = independent medical practitioner my butt! It really mean insurance midrange pr$ ck minus 5 stars would be a to higher score for him!

After showing us the wrong scans and incorrect disc he was happy to explain in retirement he still uses his staff card at qe2, at what point in his life did he forget about the patient, or was it better for him to be paid a wage by the insurance lawyers knowing he would finally be able to make a living rather than chase an ambulance.

This man is a total f@#$ ing pr#ck. Avoid if you can. He can't even read a MRI and when he does he tells you your back pain is anxiety not the huge disc bulging backward pressing on nerves. Would have been better off going to see a vet. Zero would be a to higher score for him!
