Sorry excuse for a health care professional. After waiting 5 months to get an appointment with her, my in-person visit was changed to either phone call or virtual about one week prior to my appointment. I selected a phone call. I spoke to her nurse about 5 minutes before my appointment to verify my information. “Dr.” Ham finally called me 40 minutes into my appointment. She also called from an unknown number, which I wasn’t informed she would do, and it didn’t come through to my phone. She didn’t leave a voicemail, so I had no way of knowing if it was really her who called me, since her unknown number went straight to voicemail. When I called her office to confirm, they said she called and there was no guarantee my appointment would be rescheduled. This was the worse experience I’ve ever had with a doctor and should not be in this profession with this type of bedside manner.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Ham for almost eight years. I find her very knowledgeable and she does take the time to listen and answer any questions. She keeps a close eye on my blood work to make sure I’m not under medicated or over medicated.

Dr. Ham used to be one of my favorite dr's to see. I would not recommend her to anyone now. I have been her patient for over 5 years, getting treating for chronic migraines. I recently needed a refill on my medication and requested it over a month in advance. I received a response (after multiple attempts of myself and my pharmacy trying to get in touch with the office) 2 weeks after being out of the medication. She then stated she would fit me in for an appt. at said date and time. Once the date arrived, I left work and went for the appt. and the friendly receptionist went to check me in and informed me I was not on the books for an appt. I stated that Dr. Ham had scheduled this herself and cc'd her nurse on the chain of emails through the patient portal so more than one person in her office should know about it. Receptionist stated he would call and try to figure out what was going on. Upon calling, he finds out that not only am I not scheduled in their books, but Dr. Ham as also left for the day sick. I understand things come up and you can't prevent an illness but if I would have not cancelled I would have been charged for the appt. The nurse supervisor came and spoke with me and not once apologized but instead stated Dr. Ham want her patients to be in charge of their own health care...as if to say this was my fault. Dr. Ham did call me the next day and apologize and reschedule me a future apt and ordered me enough medication to hold me over till then.
Recently I received a reminder appt. call to say I have an appt. in March on such and such date and I questioned this because my appt. was supposed to be in April. I called the office to confirm my appt. so I didn't show up again and not get seen. Again the reception staff very friendly and trying to be helpful looked into the situation and said I was not scheduled for any appt. in April only 1 in March. I said Dr. Ham scheduled this herself. They got Dr. Ham on the phone and she said she had another patient schedule for the April appt. that I could get with scheduling and set a new date/time. I then questioned why I was not a priority as a patient, as this would now be the 2nd time in 2 months this has been done to me. No apologies at any point in the conversation. Dr. Ham stated she sees 18 patients a day, when most neurologists only see 12. And she had 3 patients waiting to see her now while we were on the phone (mind you-I never asked to talk to her, I just tried to clarify with reception and they put her on the phone). And she then said she could send my records to another dr. if I wanted her to. This was the rude tone of this conversation. The call ended and she followed this call with an email through the patient portal to the "team" telling them to follow up with me asap to schedule a new appt because "patient was frustrated when she found out the appt she thought she had was not correct" again making me look like a liar when this was the 2nd appt she scheduled HERSELF for me and messed up. ALSO that was almost a week ago...I still haven't received a follow up call or email. Before choosing Dr. Ham as your provider proceed with caution as she is clearly overworked, seeing too many patients, is missing appts, and placing blame and attitude in the wrong place. Again this used to be one of my favorite dr's who I would have recommended to anyone, quite the opposite now.

One visit she blew me off. The 2nd visit she was actually very receptive and apologized for her behavior during our first encounter and said that since my symptoms had not resolved in a year that she would order all these tests to find out what was going on. She told me to record all symptoms. When I returned, she blew me off again and said I needed psychiatric help. Clearly not consistent and enough to make you think twice before seeing her again.

"Dr" Ham is very unprofessional and lacks the knowledge of neuroscience. She preformed EMG wrong by not using the needle to check the nerves! Ham also wrote that I "drink" because I became emotional after she treated me like a criminal for having health issues! I really hope she finds another job for she treats people who need answers like they belong in a psych ward!

I had been having such bad headaches and no one ever helped me just gave me meds that made me sick. dr ham knows her stuff and I am getting better finally without being on meds that make me worse. It always takes 30 minutes before I can see her which isn't great but oh well.

On our first visit to her she refused to give us refills for my son's antiseizure meds because she said he was over medicated. She was dead wrong, even the pharmacist told her she was wrong. So not only did she want to decrease his meds, she wanted to switch him to generic, two major changes and he wasnt seizure free to begin with. This lady is nuts. We have since gone to UVA since we cant seem to find a good neurologist here in Richmond. Oh and BTW, no doctor there said he was overmedicated. Run, run far away.....

She was so helpful. Found out that my dizziness was migraines. I'm not all the way better, but it helps to finally know what's wrong. I thought she was nice and took a lot of time to explain it.
