Biography
As an Otolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeon, I care for adults and children with health conditions of the ears, nose, throat and head and neck region. My passion, clinical interest, and subspecialty training is in Reconstructive Facial Plastic Surgery with a focus on skin cancer (removal and post-removal reconstruction). My background includes a four-year undergraduate degree in Psychology & Research Methodology at York University. This was followed by a four-year medical degree, and then five-years of residency training in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Western Ontario. I then completed one-year of sub-specialized training in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan under the mentorship of world-renowned surgeon Dr. Shan Baker. Dr. Baker is an international authority on facial plastic surgery and has written several gold-standard textbooks on facial and nasal reconstruction following skin cancer removal. As an academic surgeon I have had the opportunity to collaboratively publish over 30 peer-reviewed publications, lecture nationally and internationally, and receive several national and international research awards. In an effort to further refine my research skills, I am currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Western Ontario - where my research is focused on the development of a scar assessment scale (tool), which will be followed by an extensive assessment of methods to improve skin scarring. Additional research interests involve: determining how surgeons learn new technical skills, and the development of outcome measures within Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery - i.e. finding ways to establish if a particular surgery, procedure, or technique does what it is intended to do.

Chiming in with my dermabrasion experience:
Simply the nature of scars is that they’re hard to treat, but my very old and stubborn atrophic scars have softened quite a bit. I would trust him for other facial treatments as well — he was super chill and knowledgeable
