I had an iud inserted by dr Olsen back in 2021 to help with period pains, my family doctor had referred me to her. I didn’t get any calls to book an appointment and had to call weekly to try to get ahold of the clinic that never seems to be open, when I finally got an appointment I was handed a urine test cup with no further instructions of where the washroom was or where to put it when I was done or where to wait to see dr Olsen. After 45 minutes of waiting past my appointment time I was finally seen by her, she had a student with her and asked me if it was okay if she overseen the procedure I said that was okay. She did not ask me if it was okay that the student did any of the procedure and just let her. As a 15 year old I knew this was wrong but I was in such an intense amount of pain I couldn’t speak up. I was told it would be a “little pinch” while the insertion happened the student had a hard time with inserting it and had tried multiple times while I was clearly not okay and in pain, dr Olsen let her continue trying to insert it before finally taking over and doing it herself it was such a barbaric amount of pain I passed out multiple times, I was then left on the table as they left the room to get dressed but couldn’t get up without passing out again, when I was able to get up I noticed the bloody equipment they left out for me to see which caused me to pass out again. A few months later I had a follow up appointment over the phone where I told her I had been in pain since the day I got it inserted and she told me it was normal and to follow up with my family doctor in another month. About 8 months after getting the iud I had to go to a walk in clinic to get it removed because the immense amount of pain and continuous bleeding, I was later diagnosed by another doctor with endometriosis by laparoscopic surgery and I strongly believe my pain could have been prevented if dr Olsen had took the time to educate herself on endometriosis instead of just offering birth control and saying period cramps are normal.
