After having issues for the past few years with my veins, I decided it was time to treat them again to relieve pressure and swelling on my legs after exercise and just general living. It was recommended to me the York Vein Clinic and Dr. Kritzinger by a co-worker. After having a consult with a local Dr., who was in my mind charging a lot for the work required I figured I would try a consult at the York Vein Clinic. To say the least I wasn't disappointed. The cost would be half and I would only require laser treatment on one leg instead of two, the rest would be covered by OHIP with sclerotherapy treatment. All treatment was explained clearly and concisely and expedited in a professional manner. I had a few hiccups with an uncooperative vein and additional appts were made quickly to accommodate travel before the winter weather arrived (6 hour round trip required). The confidence and knowledge during treatment and laser appointments was quite reassuring and I must say I cannot thank Dr. Kritzinger, Nurse Sue and Bonnie for all their kindness and professionalism

I love to walk and I love to travel but I had varicose veins that caused discomfort and limited both. I retired and was planning a trip to Europe. I knew I needed to do something about my veins in order to trek across Europe. I made an appointment with Dr. Kritzinger at the York Vein Clinic in Aurora, Ontario. My experience was excellent. Dr. Kritzinger and his nurse Sue performed foam sclerotherapy on the varicose veins. Sue followed up with sclerotherapy on the smaller spider veins. Both procedures wear relatively painless and quick. Dr. Kritzinger and Sue explained the entire process before and we talked time lines. We discussed the best time to have the procedures before travelling. Bonnie, the receptionist, and Sue the nurse helped me plan my appointments accordingly. After the procedures and healing time I was able to walk 12000-17000 steps per day across 5 countries! I couldn’t have done this before my treatments. I highly recommend a visit the Vein Clinic, Dr. Kritzinger, Sue and Bonnie if you have varicose veins! The entire experience from beginning to end was A++!

It was hard to find anyone doing the Sclerotherapy treatment after moving far away up north. This new facility in Aurora, stepping into the building, you feel you are in Wonderland!!! Ever so beautifully decorated....Super friendly staff (nurse Sue and Bonnie, I hope I spell it right???) and Dr. Kritzinger .....highly punctual, loving and caring. They sure make you feel like "at home". You sure don't mind to drive even 3.5 hours EACH WAY!!! Thank you ALL and I shall see you soon, again!!!

After having lost my vein specialist to retirement after the pandemic I had a difficult time finding someone who would continue my injection sclerotherapy treatments for my varicosities and spider veins; a treatment that required some maintenance every 1-2 years. It was a treatment that worked well for me and one I could afford. After several frustrating appointments and phone calls to other specialists who attempted to upsell me on treatments, costing almost $10,000.00 I found Dr. Kritzinger who still offered injection sclerotherapy as a viable option for the situation with my veins, some of which was even covered by OHIP.
Dr. Kritzinger's willingness to offer treatment modalities that work but may not be the big income generaters that the other physicians I consulted with insisted on as they refused me treatment I could afford was a Godsend as I tried to be proactive in caring for my veins.
Despite the 6 hr round trip to his clinic I am so grateful to Dr. Kritzinger and his staff for their kind, informative and professional care. You each have been a blessing in helping me manage my vein health.
Many, Many Thanks!
Janine M.

Biography

Although I am listed as a Family Doctor, I haven't practiced family medicine since about 2003. My practice is now devoted to phlebology (treatment of vein disease) and cosmetic medicine. About 70% of my time is spent in the vein clinic and 30% in the cosmetic clinic. After completing my medical training in 1984, I took a position in a town in the interior of British Columbia, population 5,000. Eager to take my education and apply it to real-life medicine, I felt that a small town, isolated from big city hospitals and many specialists, would expose me to many interesting and difficult medical challenges. What I did not expect was the impact that this remote town and its people would have on me. What was to be a seven-month position turned into an incredible eight-year experience doing family practice, emergency medicine, and obstetrics. In 1992 I moved to Victoria, B.C. where I worked for five years before moving to Ontario. In May, 2001 I expanded the scope of my practice with the purchase of a laser for vein treatments and hair removal. This was a totally new experience for me. I had the dual challenges of learning new medical skills and learning new business skills. But I thrive on the steep part of the learning curve, it has been exhilarating! In March, 2002 following training in Montreal, Houston, and Calgary, I added sclerotherapy to my list of services. With the introduction of ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy in May, 2002 our clinic became one of only three clinics in Ontario providing this service. We became a full service vein clinic, capable of treating virtually all vein problems! In 2008, the treatment of veins (phlebology) became a recognized specialty in the USA. Canadian physicians were given the opportunity to write the exam of the American Board of Phlebology (now the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine) in 2009. I sat the exam in April, 2009 and passed it. This made me one of a small handful of Canadian physicians with this qualification (6 in Ontario and 32 in Canada as of January, 2017). Although Canada has no designated vein specialty, this qualification certainly brings significant credibility to the work we do. In 2011 the Canadian Society of Phlebology awarded fellowship status to 30 of its members, including me. This was the first year such an award was made. It followed two years of hard work covering a curriculum based on the standards of the International Union of Phlebology (UIP).
