Dr Jim saved me when I was in really bad shape from PTSD and depression.

I wish I still saw him. It wasn't fair how I lost someone I trusted and respected.

I just don't have energy to explain my innermost self to a new psychiatrist. Dr Dodds treated me with EMDR among other therapies and I never had such profound shifts in myself as those sessions.

I have spiralled completely since I stopped seeing Dr Dodds and I don't even know why I can't see him except that he has been temporarily suspended from practice. If he comes back soon I bet his waiting room will be packed all the time.

I feel pretty empty and lost now. I would never afford to go back to him but geez I guess sometimes life doesn't want it too easy. Please reinstate Doctor Dodds quickly.

I saw Dr Dodds for around 7 years ending in 2018, for help with complex PTSD and severe depression related to child abuse and rape. I have been back to see him now and then when needed and he continues to be very helpful. He has been the only psychiatrist to actually help me overcome the control that my traumas had on my life, and I have seen a number of psychiatrists in my effort to heal. His compassion, and constantly updated knowledge and his willingness to apply that new peer-reviewed approaches in his therapy (he was one of the earliest doctors to incorporate EMDR into his practice) is what made him successful, and real. There are too many psychiatrists who 'play it safe', follow routines, and prescribe drugs and have the resulting effect of poor results with their patients. I was a total suicidal, terrified basket case when I first came to see Jim: 8 years later, I ended up completing my Masters and PhD in abuse related issues, with no little thanks to the incredible insights I gained through my own therapy with him. It seems that those controlling his case are behaving more unethically than any 'mistake' he may have made. Dealing with the human psyche will always be unpredictable and to expect anyone to get it totally right 100% of the time is unrealistic in the social sciences and psychiatry. So, for the sake of his many patients, sort this mess out now, please, and give him back the dignity he deserves. You have helped me so much Jim, and yes, you did save my life: I hope I/we can help you back in return.

I have seen Jim for 24 years for complex grief and chronic and complex PTSD. I am aware of why he was initially suspended. It was necessary to conduct an initial investigation. But that was 11 months ago. It should be settled and he should be back practising by now, albeit even if a period of supervisory consulting is required. His suspension is causing life threatening pain and suffering to his patients. And because we are given no indication of where in the procedure his case lies nor any timeline for when a decision is likely, we are unable to get treatment and support so badly needed. This has been handled so badly by the various bodies, starting with AHPRA. Psychiatric support of highly vulnerable and at risk people is so very different to other medical areas. There simply aren't psychiatrist services available elsewhere. Complex PTSD cannot simply be retold with someone new. It takes such a long time. And a trauma specialist. There isn't the availability in the Brisbane area of such specialists and no handover procedures have been allowed by AHPRA as no communication to patients from Dr Dodds practice is allowed by AHPRA. Jim needs to be accountable for the therapeutic error he made, and he would accept that, but his patients should not have their lives put at risk because of their mishandling of the procedure by AHPRA. Even doctors are human and can make mistakes. And the pressure of the moment in practising, including transference issues, needs to be understood. His patients' welfare need to be swiftly addressed.

Dr. Dodds was my psychiatrist for many years. He was amazing and helped me tremendously. His suspension is unbelievable and having his good work being stripped from his patients but his livelihood as well. I have never been contacted by the medical authorities (AHPRA) for ongoing assistance with my PTSD, anxiety and depression, instead just being left in limbo. This is disgustingly unethical on so many levels. So it only takes one person to whinge and everyone (including the professional helping) is left high and dry. I'm horrified and have never had anyone help me since like Dr. Dodds has. I pray this is cleared up soon and our wonderful Dr. Dodds can get back to his patients and continue the wonderful work he's been doing for a very long time.

I understand that when a complaint is made to AHPRA that the doctor in question is suspended during investigation but Dr Dodds has now been suspended for almost 6 months. For his patients- many long standing with severe mental health issues - to not be able to access his specialist care is appalling. My GP consistently recommended waiting for his suspension to be lifted. After many weeks I’m now in a position where I need specialist care urgently and other psychiatrists are not available until next year, thus taking me up to 9 months without specialist care for my PTSD and depression. I had made great inroads into my mental health with Dr Dodds and am now gravely concerned for my future. My GP is a wonderful general practitioner but there is much about my past trauma that I can’t talk to him about, plus I need specialist care he is not able to provide. AHPRA should be ashamed is how slow they are dealing with this issue (whatever it might be) and the impact on Dr Dodds’s patients.

He was very helpful to me, and helped me manage my medication, and moved me onto more helpful medication. I'm incredulous that he's been suspended. He's superb, and as soon as his suspension is lifted I'll be getting my referral moved back to him.
