I have had the unfortunate displeasure of meeting with Dr Portek. I have never come across such unusual behavior. Buyer beware.

Not helpful don't waste your time this doctor brushes off what you are trying to convey that us your lived experience walked away with little confidence and little knowledge

I wish I could leave 0 stars.

Dr Portek took me on as a patient and completely dismissed everything I asked regarding my progressive disease. I’ve been living with chronic pain for 20 years, and a fibromyalgia diagnoses from a rheumatologist in Melbourne when I was living there for 6 months.
He told me he doesn’t have any knowledge with fibromyalgia.
I had asked him about moving forward with a disability permit as I am disabled and need assistance with walking.. I was told “People who drive Porsches are the reason I can’t give you a permit.” Which had nothing to do with what I asked.
I’ve called the clinic over 100 times and have left over 70 messages (Optus records can prove this) to get in to see him the last time my appointment was rescheduled. I was never called back and I’ve been without my biologic medication for over 5 months. I was on these for over a year and the progression of my AS is getting worse. I’ve been without my treatment for so long that I’ll need to start this whole process again. I’m on a waiting list for a private rheumatologist, their receptionist was also incredibly worried about the neglect I’ve had with Dr Portek, saying and agreeing I cannot be without biologics.

I’m 28 years old, I’ve been patient with my condition for 20 years.
If you’re younger, I wouldn’t bother and would strongly suggest any other rheumatologist if you’re in need of public help.
I’ve decided to go private because I can’t afford to have my condition get progressively worse with someone who has no care.
