Arrogant, does not want you to speak and he does not examine in full. He makes up his mind by looking at X-Rays only. Terrible specialist, only does easier cases rather than investigate. Two other specialist I saw for a second opinion helped me so much more. Stay away from Giblin.

He is one of the best surgeon that I have had the pleasure of meeting. A left knee replacement 2016 and now right one in a few weeks. I would recommend him.

Seeing Dr Matthew Giblin for back and leg pain was the worst decision of my life and has had a devasting impact on me for the last 5 years. He has operated on me 5 times between October 2012 and April 2014 and I have had a very poor outcome, to the point that another surgeon now has to treat both my underlying disc issues and continuing pain caused by the surgery done by Dr Giblin. The first operation was a microdiscectomy at L4/L5. I didn't have a clear understanding of the purpose of this operation and it made no difference to either my back or leg pain. The next operation was an ALIF from L4 to S1. The fusion at L4/L5 failed and the cage between the vertebrae slipped within a few weeks of surgery. The bone did not heal properly, leaving cracks or pseudoarthrosis, causing ongoing pain. The opinion of my current surgeon is that the operation was warranted but the techniques and implants were out of date and less successful than newer prostheses and techniques. I had to wait 10 agonising months until the next surgery to remove fixation hardware and replace them with rods and more fixation hardware to stabilise the L4/L5 area. During that surgery, Dr Giblin put one of the fixation hardware units in the wrong place and I woke up in the most intense pain and agony I had ever experienced. He did another operation to remove this fixation hardware unit and replace it. During either that operation or the previous one, a fragment of some type became dislodged and further aggravated the already traumatised root nerve from L5/S1. He had to operate again to remove the fragment and relieve the pressure around the nerve. I have permanent nerve pain as a direct result of this mistake that I did not experience before the last 3 operations. Ultimately, the outcome was that after 5 invasive operations, I was in worse pain than before the first. I could not work for nearly 4 years in total and am having more surgery (with a different surgeon) in February 2018 to try and fix up this mess, at great financial and personal cost. Being operated on by Dr Matthew Giblin has had the most devastating impact on my life and I regret the decsion every day. At a minimum, I would consider a second opinion for prospective patients.

Dr Matthew Giblin performed a micro discectomy on I think my L4 or 5 about 10 years ago. Considering that I could not walk for 1 year prior to the operation and was walking 2-3 weeks after the operation I am extremely pleased with the outcome. It has been nearly 10 years now and I have not had any pain or disability. I really could. To be more grateful to the good doctor. I should also point out that this surgery was very short notice, a few hours, and did not allow Dr Giblin much time to research my background.

I went to Dr M Giblin about my back . I had seen him several times, he is a very arrogant and inpatient man , with no patience to explain, It felt like a production line and your the next to be stamped with a number. I felt my situation wasnt straight forward enough for him so he didnt want to wast time on me.
