After being referred to Dr Courtney Shires for a biopsy on lesions on my tongue, she instead treated them with oral steroid rinse which didn't work. I called about 2 weeks after my initial appt leaving a detailed message with the receptionist and asked for a return call for help with next step. About a week later I got a voicemail that they would try me back later. I assume this was Dr Shires nurse. I waited a week and called again, leaving another detailed message and requesting help because of the severity and pain of these lesions. About a week later I received another voicemail saying since they haven’t heard back from me I should just wait for my next appointment. That’s problem #1. I get to my appt and wait 2 hours in the waiting area before being called back. During this time a check-in rep approaches a gentleman sitting across from me telling him that because he has fever he needs to wait in another area. ??? I’m called back and within 10 minutes Dr Shires enters and asks me what’s going on. I give her a quick rundown, she looks into mouth, says shes going to order an MRI of my tongue in case she’s missing something and was going to “call in a bunch of meds” to my pharmacy. In total she didn’t spend more than 3 minutes with me before she left the room. I thought she said she’d be right back and I had more questions for her. But she didn’t return. Instead a lady enters my room and says I’m good to go. I asked about the MRI and she said she didn’t know but someone would probably get back with me. I asked her about the meds being called in and she told me to wait til tomorrow, the day before thanksgiving, then check with my pharmacy. I told her that wouldn’t work. I needed new medicine quickly because the lesions were getting worse, causing problems with eating and speech. She said she’d look into it. I go to check out and told she wants to see me back in one month, the week of Dec 17. As the lady is trying to schedule me for that appointment she realizes Dr Shires will be in surgery the entire week, and won’t be returning til January and she has surgery scheduled that week too. The lady said she was going to check with Dr Shires and see when she should schedule me to return. She gets my phone number and says she’ll call back once she gets an answer. Now, 36 hours later I’ve heard nothing. I called again today trying to leave a message for her office, to be sure and call my meds in. But evidently they have protocol to follow because the receptionist wouldn’t just take my message and forward it, she wanted me to recount the entire history of my problem. I asked her to just please get the message to the nurse so I can get my medicine today. As of tonight I haven’t been scheduled for an MRI, I haven’t received a call with a return appointment time and I have no medicine. Now my pharmacy is closed, won’t reopen til Friday after thanksgiving, and according to my online profile, they never even received the prescription request. I realize and understand that Dr Shires is a cancer doctor. I appreciate that she should be fully committed and available to those patients. But I’m a patient of hers too. My illness isn’t anywhere near the severity of cancer, at least I hope not, but it’s an important problem to me. I wish I could offer a more positive review of west cancer clinic. But the complete lack of respect and disregartowards me, my illness, my time, as well as ignoring my multiple requests for help is shameful. The lack of courtesy, attention, follow up and concern for my illness has left me very offended and unsatisfied. I have never been treated so poorly by any doctor I’ve ever seen. I hope she is more responsive to her more critically ill patients. I can’t rate her knowledge of my symptoms because she never took the time to listen or offer any diagnosis. Lesson learned; I will never return to her office to be treated so poorly again; nor will I recommend her office for any type of care.

Courtney used my husband like a Guinea pig. She did two surgical procedures on him that were NOT standard of care. The pathologist failed to find cancer that was present and when they finally did Courtney refrained from informing us that they went back to old biopsy samples and it was present from the first procedure as well. Thank God we got a second opinion because it saved my husband’s life. Courtney is too arrogant and near impossible to get in contact with.

I have someone in the ICU. I have called to speak with Dr Shires at least 4 times. She will not call me back and I have Power of Attorney and that is the law. I honestly didn't expect that from a professional. Every hospital has always called. I am not happy at all

Dr. Shires gave up time to expedite my husband’s biopsy. She rolled out a red carpet for us and I am forever grateful.
Her bedside manner is above and beyond the call of duty. Dr. Shires is one of very few doctors that TRULY care about her patients. Not only did she take out my husband’s sinus tumor, she squeezed us into her already busy schedule at the west cancer clinic to examine and consult him when we were afraid and very anxious about possible prognosis. I am so blessed that God lead us into Dr. Shires knowledgeable, caring, and very capable hands. Thank you Dr. Shires for EVERYTHING you do! We love you!
