I refuse to have Linda Pacyau assist any of my family members in future emergencies at the hodpital. She was the Hilo emergency room nurse. Son was in pain, difficulty swallowing from reocurring tonsil stones. Went to emergency because pain, stones, worstened & beyond tonsils in throat. Was worried of infection or severity. Unable to get in to see, ENT. Felt he was in an emergency status. Pacyau's demeanor made us uncomfortable. She was rude, condescending immediately. Sarcastically said "so what do you want me to do, " there's nothing we can do here fir him" after reading patient chart. My son vlesrly wrote he was in pain, consistent, progressed tonsil stones, etc. She did not exam him. Did not suggest or feel a blood test, scope, swab or ctscan should be done. Immediately diagnosed w/out allowing us to be seen by a emergency doctor. Assumed we were asking for a ENT referral, which we did not, as we knew our PCM could do that. Stated she doesn't do referrals or emergency doctors there won't do tonsil surgeries. We didn't ask for any of that. I was shocked at her unprofessionalism, lack of patient care. She got up & said I'll call your pcm & get a referral. I told her I could do that, that we came here for urgent help, not for referrals or to be turned away. She was not in the position to deny any emergency patient coming in to see a doctor. When she got up, my son & I were so upset, disappointed & immediately left that waiting rm to call our PCM to ask what should we do. We were about to drive to our pcm. Pacyau later came running out if hospital calling my sons name. Probably a Staff informed her we left. Not good for hospital in this case. Raised her voice infront all other patients sitting outside to tell me in a condescending manner that she talked to our pcm & he's getting a ENT referral. She said "look I don't want to argue with you" & placed her body between me & my son. She looked at my son & said " you're a big boy , we can help you now, come in doctor will see you." I told her she, was not listening to our concerns, did not focus on the immediate care, not here to argue. Our concern was not a referral, it was to be seen as urgent care by a doctor. We were already waiting on an appt w/an ENT but she was booked & his condition worstened, so that's why we went to emergency. Later, we were taken into a side rm, not the double doors where emergency patients are directed to see the emergency doctor. Doctor (never seen her there before) saw my son. Had no stethoscope light. Left rm. Came back. Had difficulty turning on light. Quickly looked in sons throat. Said it wasn't inflammed and asked him if he has a fever. Stones, holes present. No blood tests, no xray, etc. By this time, my sons swelling he had earlier, had decreased, but stones, holes, & rednes still apparent. The doctor suggested we see a new ENT who she said has no priveleges in that hospital. Why would anyone suggest that? In the event of an emergency during an "in office" procedure, that doctor could not transport that patient for him to treat at the Channel's-The Dead Files crew &; Stephen Dischiavi on JUL 22nd. Returning SUN 26 or 27. Booking your reservations on JUL15. I can fly you out JUL 21 early flight, cheaper. Return MON 27. Don, me & maybe Crystal (if can get a pass for her (TMR) are staying at our apartment. I will book a hotel rm for you At that hospitalPacyau nurse practitioner should listen btr, never assume, never be condescending. .huge issue that could lead to misdiagnosis, miscommunication & possible increase life threatening situation. Every patient is different & responds to infections or illnesses in variables. Doctor should have at least done a culture or blood test. Thank god my sons issue was not life threatening, but we will find out more from the ENT on availability. If the, ENT states my sons condition was more serious, the nurse & doctor were not as thorough as they should have been. When we got hm, his throat swelled again, difficulty swallowing & low grade fever. I will be writing a formal complaint. More details left out due to space limitation here. I have family in the health industry & they all agree, the nurse was out of line and the doctor should have done more. Seen so many instances of lack of patient care, misdiagnosis, wrong medication given to patient in recovery rm, lack of accountability, etc. No more. Awareness is now in progress.
