Steinmetz has treated me like a hypochondriac for years downplaying all my symptoms, he would barely look at me which sucks because he might have noticed my skin tightening and hardening. I found a new doc second visit he’s diagnosed Systemic scleroderma. Unfortunately my GI, lungs and joints are all affected my hands are hardening. This doctor might be ok if there’s nothing wrong with you but if you have any complaints he doesn’t hear them. You wasted my

Dr. Steinmetz, in a word, Great. I trust him with my life; I am sorry for those who have not found a doctor that has the knowledge and compassion and skills needed to be one of the best.

He has been my doctor for 3 years now an d I could not be happier. It is nice to talk to be able to talk to your doctor when they are so well grounded and not so full of themselves. He is caring and gives you 100% of his attention when you are with him. -=GOOD CHOICE=-

Dr. D has been my personal physician for over 11 years now and I can't say enough about him. He remember things you tell him YEARS later. He LISTENS to you and your symptoms and does anything needed to find the cause. He explains things clearly - good or bad. And shows true compassion and empathy with his patients. Yes, occasionally he's been running a bit behind on his appointments, but that doesn't mean he's going to cut your time with him short to get caught up. His nurse Jeanine is awesome too! Even though I live just 3 short miles from the Southside Clinic, I drive all the way out to Clive - because Dr. Steinmetz is there.

Dr. Steinmetz is a brilliant physician, exceptionally knowledgeable, but with a warm friendly personality. Even though he is clearly well-schooled and informed, he always presents information to you with a down-to-earth manner and in a way you can understand. If you need to see him on an urgent basis, he seems to always be able to work you into his busy schedule. And yet, you never feel rushed out of his office as quickly as possible. Rather, he seems interested first of all in dealing with your problems thoroughly and helping you as much as he can. I can't say enough about how much I admire him and am grateful for his caring and healing manner. We asre so fortunate to have him in Des Moines!

Hwe is an exceptional doctor -- very caring, knowledgeable and thorough. He listens intently to your concerns, discusses the situation and corrective actions with you in detail. He never appears rushed or eager to get to his next patient, but seems to always have your best interests at heart. In all of my many years, I have never had a better physician! It is unfortunate that because of Mercy Hospital rules, he is unable to follow you when you are hospitalized. Instead, your care is turned over to a string of "hospitalists" who never seem to understand your condition, and appear to be too much in a hurry to really find out. It's a shock to go from the excellent comprehensive care of Dr. Steinmetz to the machine-like assembly-line care of the hospitalists at Mercy. All of Dr. Steinmetz's patients rave about him when we talk to each other in the waiting room. He is a sterling model of what every patient wants when they need medical attention!

Highly competent, friendly physician who takes all the time needed to be certain you understand your condition and the options for treatment. I have never experienced another doctor with such compassion and warmth to his patients. Further, he takes great care to order lab work or consults with other physicians as needed, but never more than required to offer the best care to the patient. He is thorough, monitoring prescriptions and therapies, reviewing them at each visit. He will respond quickly by phone when needed. Perhaps most important is his ability to consult with the patient as a person, not a specimen. His manner, while frank, is supportive and sensitive to the individual. His instructions for treatment are very clear, and he is eager to answer any questions. The patient never feels rushed. Dr. Steinmetz is the finest physician I have ever had, and I have followed him eagerly to his new offices, even though requiring a much longer drive for my visits. He's outstanding!

This doctor is the most incompetent man I have ever met. He misdiagnosed me again and again. He would rather say I was a hyperchondriac rather than refer me to a pulminologist, who diagnosed me with asthma. He might be a good listener but that is because he wants to be a psychologist. I would not recommend this man to anyone and further more many of my friends have been misdiagnosed by this person also. I sincerely suggest that if you need a doctor do not waste your time with this man.
