Biography
Dr. Varughese was born in Houston and considers himself a native of both Houston and Kerala, India where he has spent a significant amount of time in his youth. He attended medical school at the early age of 16 at the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi University. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency from St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Centre in Phoenix. During his training, he served as Internal Medicine Chief Resident and Co-chair for the American College of Physicians Council of Resident/Fellow Members. Dr. Varughese cares deeply about improving access to healthcare and was featured in the Catholic Health World newsletter as part of team of training physicians who were finding ways of overcoming obstacles that faced the chronically ill. He then completed his fellowship in Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine in his hometown of Houston where he trained at both M.D. Anderson Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. During his training, his research focus was in diabetes medication and its effect on inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. His current interest is in treating all endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, low testosterone, pituitary disease, adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, etc. He is an active member of the American College of Clinical Endocrinologist. During his spare time, he loves to do DIY activities, spend time with family and church. He spends time helping the church youth ministry and teaching Sunday school.
