Biography
About Dr. Drew Shessel Dr. Drew Shessel was inspired to pursue a career in oral surgery by his father and grandfather, both of whom worked in the healthcare field. He was born and raised in this community, and he knew he wanted to return to provide his oral and maxillofacial surgery services. He attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate career and then continued on to the Medical School of South Carolina in Charleston, where he completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree. While there, he received a scholarship for excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Before beginning his residency, he completed an OMS internship at LSU in New Orleans. Then, he moved to Florida to complete his training at the Broward Health Medical Center. While in Florida, he finished his required four-year OMS residency, during which he trained in the treatment of a wide range of oral and facial conditions. In addition, he learned the safe administration of all forms of anesthesia. After training, Dr. Shessel knew he wanted to enter private practice because it allowed him to provide direct patient care. He looked for a place where the team provides the highest quality patient care with a personalized touch and always ensures continuity of care with patients and referrals. He enjoys being a part of the team at Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta, and he finds it extremely rewarding to be able to offer patients everything they need to immediately feel better. Certifications Becoming certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery required Dr. Shessel to demonstrate his exemplary knowledge of the OMS specialty. He completed a rigorous written exam, as well as four separate oral exams. As a board-certified oral surgeon, Dr. Shessel has illustrated his knowledge of the specialty, how to react in certain surgical situations, and more. He is the highest qualified professional to perform the full scope of OMS procedures.

All I can say is WOW! I have NEVER had an experience with any medical professional that tops my experience with Dr. Drew Shessel. Let me first explain that I gave birth to six babies in twelve years, so from midwives, to nurses, to doctors, I’ve had to deal with countless medical staff over the years. Dr. Shessell is at the very TOP, without a question.
When I tell you Dr. Shessel has performed four complicated oral surgeries on me over the past three years and I’ve gone home each time not feeling like I’d had anything done that day. Although he always prescribes it, I haven’t needed a single bit pain medication, nothing. I have had my babies naturally, but I am a COMPLETE wuss about any other type of pain. THERE WAS NONE after all of my surgeries with him. I don’t think I will ever wrap my head around how he does what he does, but I am just grateful that he exists.
Beyond the painless procedures, he is sooo kind and a generally wonderful person to talk to. He is incredibly humble and knowledgeable and takes his time. I never feel rushed or like a number. The office staff is always accommodating to me and they go above and beyond to make sure I have all my questions answered. I can’t wait to take our teens when they’re ready to get their wisdom teeth out.
