He will prescribe HUNDREDS of blood labs. I was told to go back every 2 weeks for MORE - I lived an hour away and just couldn't do it with small children at home. He prescribed so many meds, I was on 10 at one point, and I was in my early 40's. You have to drag your meds in a bag into his office for every appointment. If you forget, you are scolded. The wait is excruciating. I would seriously be in the office for 2 hours OR MORE every single visit. and this is NOT time spent WITH HIM - this is in waiting lobby, filling-out paperwork (ALOT of paperwork EVERY VISIT) then waiting in the exam room. The nurses and staff are amazing - as was Maggie in the Quest office in the back. Personally, I would steer clear.

Brilliant & compassionate. If you have questions for any doctor- write them down or ask in their portal. I have been a patient for20+ years. We have disagreed with each other just like any relationship. He’s meticulous. He cares for the sick. We love him. Dr. Stacey Polasek.

I saw Dr Burns for over a year & was misdiagnosed by him with a very rare condition. I ended up in intensive care with blood being pumped out of my stomach because of the medication he had me on for an incorrect diagnosis. This guy is a hack. He made a deal to surrender his license in California because of impending disciplinary action. His Texas license was restricted due to malpractice issues in 2005. He again had disciplinary hearings in 2007 and 2008. Check it out for yourself http://reg.tmb.state.tx.us/OnLineVerif/Phys_ReportVerif_new.asp It is absolutely amazing to me that he is still allowed to practice.

Dr. Burns is the smartest and best doctor I have ever known in my life. I have lupus, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, Sjogren's syndrome, autoimmune hepatitis, polymyositis, non alcoholic fatty liver disease (I'm a thin person), chronic gastritis and a host of other related disorders. I'm a 58 year old male and started becoming symptomatic at 49. No other doctor's could figure out ANY of my disorders. I take a lot of medicine BUT IT WORKS VERY WELL. I am a very sick man but because of Dr. Burn's excellent care I live a more-or-less normal life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. BURNS AND HAVE REFERRED SEVERAL OF MY FRIENDS TO HIM. There is no doubt in my mind that I would be dead without his care. I believe some of the people listing bad reviews on this site are impatient. It takes time and some trial-and-error to diagnose and treat autoimmune disorders. My advice is to go to Dr. Burns and do what he says. Robert Cullen

Dr. Burns is excellent at diagnosing issues that other doctors can't figure out. The BIG problem, as another reviewer stated, he loads you up on medications that you don't need. He makes you bring your bottles so he can make sure you are taking the medicine. If you forget, you get scolded like a child. I was waiting for my appointment one day, looking around the room, seeing all the other patients clutching their bags of medicine and got a bad feeling. I got a 2nd opinion on medications and that doctor removed 6 out of 8. He had me on COPD medication because I was having some difficulty breathing. Medication for thrush (which I did not have) and several others. Lord knows how all those medications interacted with each other. Somehow Dr. Burns found out I got a 2nd opinion and was furious. Ranting about other doctors being "out to get him". Very unprofessional. He absolutely does not tolerate patients researching their own health and questioning his methods. It's a shame really because he is the best doctor I have ever seen for getting to the bottom of strange symptoms.

I went to Dr. Burns because I had arthritis pain and fatigue, which I thought might be related to the arthritis. He determined that the fatigue was due to low blood pressure, which he undertook to treat (even though he is a rheumatologist).
Burns claimed that, due to the medication he put me on for the low blood pressure, I needed to have a battery of blood tests every four to six weeks – five or six vials were drawn each time.
I consulted a cardiologist, who was astonished at the high dose of medication as well as the frequent blood tests. The cardiologist, whose area of expertise this is, says that is completely unnecessary.
Burns also decided that I had psoriatic arthritis, and wanted to put me on Enbrel right away. Due to the long list of awful side effects that come with that drug, I elected to wait until things got worse before taking it. Within a few months (and after modifying some of my activities on my own), my arthritis pain has faded to a mild ache. If I had started the Enbrel, I would still be on it, never knowing that I could have waited much longer before taking such a drastic step. I realize that the pain will likely return eventually, and I will have to deal with it then. But for now, I am not damaging my health with unnecessary medication.
And then there’s Dr. Burns’ attitude. He is smug, resentful of questions, clearly dislikes patients who do research about their purported conditions on their own, and takes very obvious delight in delivering dire diagnoses – he gleefully told me I had awful things that made me think my life was almost over (I’m in my 50s) that I turned out not to have at all. His gimmick seems to be to tell you that you have terrible illnesses, put you on a lot of drugs, and make you come back frequently for “prescription checks” and more blood work. What a way to build a practice. (And really, I have to wonder if he owns stock in the diagnostic lab service.)
After completing and faxing records requests three times (my other doctors never received the records), I went to Burns’ office to pick them up myself. All they would give me was the results of the last three blood tests, along with three pages of “notes” from the doctor. In these notes, he made a number of disparaging and very unprofessional remarks about my character and incorrect assumptions about my personal life and activities.
Finally, I have discovered that Dr. Burns originally practiced in California, where he was brought up before the medical board for some kind of violation (see the California medical board site at http://www.mbc.ca.gov/Publications/Disciplinary_Actions/Hot_Sheets/hotsheet_2005_12.pdf). Rather than trying to clear his name, he surrendered his license there (apparently to avoid further investigation) and moved to Houston to get a new license. On another web site (http://www.healthgrades.com/physician/dr-david-burns-3bndt#tab=background-check&scrollTo=BackgroundBackgroundCheck_anchor), I found that he has also been sanctioned in Texas.
Stay away!

Dr. Burns is a quack. He's a medicine peddler. Overprescribes and doesn't diagnose. Steer clear.
