I had an 8 level fusion at UCSF in 2008. 2 levels didn't fuse, and they should've brought me right back to fix it, but they didn't. 10 years of soldiering on with worsening pain and other symptoms, Dr. Slucky explained exactly how I needed to be fixed. And he did it. 100 days later I broke my hardware, so he brought me back and we did the whole fusion (9 levels) completely over again. He truly fixed everything that was mechanically wrong. Now I still have severe chronic pain - but that was never really going to be resolved. Dr. Slucky might be a bit too quick (bedside manner as others have commented), but he sure knows what he was doing and did an excellent job for my very challenging complex situation.

Terrible Dr! I can’t even believe your in peoples care.
Your the worst I have ever encountered. I hope you read your reviews. Maybe you should stay with woodworking alone and away from people, as a career and not in medical field!!

The main thing is the results. Dr. Slucky performed a laparoscopic microdiscectomy on me well over 10 years ago. He was the only one who could do this procedure at the time without leaving a huge scar, as performing it laparoscopically was quite new. I still have no symptoms and am fully functional. I am doing yoga and playing ice hockey in my early 50's. The surgery was in my late 30's!

I got spinal surgery for a herniated disc (L5-S1). His skill as a surgeon is top notch. The results for my surgery were almost complete remission of symptoms. Dr Slucky's bedside manner could use a little improvement. He was constantly cutting me off while I was talking and seemed in a hurry to leave. However, he did not pressure me to do the surgery. Instead he just laid out my options and what the statistical likelihood of outcomes would be (like re-herniating the disc). My mom also got surgery for a problem in her neck (c5-L1?). It was causing her heart attack like symptoms. Her surgery was much more extensive. He fused two discs and went in through the front of her neck. He was going to do a different surgery but he decided to order one more MRI of a different area. After looking at the problem with a new view he said "this changes everything." He brought in a team of doctors because of the rarity. We never did get a good explanation of the problem, but now my mom is symptom free.

I completely disagree with the previous rating. Dr. Slucky has a terrible bedside manner. He performed a serious spinal fusion on me and didn't tell me that he was going to install a titanium plate in my neck. In fact, I didn't find out until after the surgery, when my symptoms were worse and I insisted on an MRI.he never told me about post-fusion syndrome. He never told me that by fusing two vertebrae together the discs above and below will become hyper mobile and there's a higher chance that they will bulge. And he never told me that he was leaving his current practice to go to another and I was his very last patient. I didn't find out until I tried to reach him and his practice was closed.

Dr. Slucky is the most humane, personable and talented physician I've ever encountered. He takes a personal interest in his patients and sees each one personally pre- and post-op. He is a gift to his patients.
