Have been seeing Dr Cronin for over 10 years. He is old school relies on traditional medications. He is limited in cbd but a caring non judgemental listener . He can be a bit dry and aloof but a safe doctor. Because he is a bit limited in what he can offer you expect to be disappointed and feeling worse after seeing him on occasion . Tends to give you very practical feedback. Sadly I don’t think he particularly likes what he does . Can reflect in the lack of treatment he offers. A good genuine person might be suited better in another line of medicine that he is more passionate about and more to offer his patients. I’ve had worse doctors though

Re: Dr John Cronin,

Dr Cronin has treated me now going on several years; I have a diagnosis of PTSD, MDD and Anxiety resulting from 15 years military service spanning from time in Afghanistan and multiple other operations. Dr Cronin may come across what some people term as ‘dry’ initially however, he is making an independent medical assessment on you mental stability. In addition, you may need to be admitted to undertake mixed mode therapy of both drug and CBT therapies to which Dr Cronin has admitting rights at the Victoria clinic which is now a state of the art, upgraded facility. These reviews are completely subjective however, I believe Dr Cronin to be an experienced psychiatrist that has made every effort to medicate me, work with me to reduce my medication when possible and still keep me safe, be open and honest with me and maintain a professional therapeutic relationship. For these reasons alone I rate him 5/5. When he retires, we would have lost a true practitioner. BZ

I've been under Dr Cronin care for many years. I think a lot of patients are hard on him because he can appear aloof but when you're at your lowest he will show his caring side. Remember he is limited by the tools at his disposal, Antidepressant development has stalled with drugs released in the early 90's still the main class of treatment.

An excellent, caring psychiatrist. Some have commented on his wait-and-see approach which I can see to a certain extent, but the it's harder to judge as I see him for maintenance - I saw a psychiatrist when in crisis before I moved to Melbourne and am now stable.

Dr Cronin saw my son when the public system had given him up - we got the message "so this is as good as it can be for him"
Some years later under Dr Cronin's supervision and quite a few admissions to the Victoria clinic my son is a different person. He has hope and optimism back and he is achieving the goals that he set for himself. Thank you for his life back.

The problem with Dr. Cronin is he's very poor at what he does. Has no knowledge of useful medication combinations to treat serious depression other than the garden variety methods. He's a very arrogant and rude man who would serve the public well by retiring this year. A true Quack!
