I cannot recommend Dr. Carlo Tornatore because he tried to delay my Baclofen Pump operation on 9/16/2016. My catheter broke on 3/15/2016 and the neurosurgery agreed to fit it on 9/16/2016. Dr. Tornatore instructed his staff to call me five times to convince me not to have the surgery. He did not care that without the surgery I could have tissue damage, neurological symptoms , serious injury , or death because spinal fluid or drug was leaking into my tissues. Dr. Tornatore also suggested that I come into the office and have my medication withdrawn out of my Baclofen Pump. He suggested that it be replaced with chlorine medication. I felt that Dr. Tornatore was about to harm me. Therefore, I listen to the neurosurgery instruction and I had my surgery on the 9/16/2016. Dr. Tornatore is on longer my Neurologist.

Dr. Tornadoes is a wonderful, caring man & an excellent, extremely knowledgeable physician. He takes time to answer questions, to patiently explain complex processes & most wonderful of all, he really listens to you, his patient. Yes, his staff is less than perfect & all the confusion & other annoyances that come with a teaching hospital are part of being a patient of Dr. Tornatore. Even though I get frustrated with all the problems, I'm still willing to put up with it all, in order to have Dr. Tornatore as my Neurologist.

Dr. Tornatore is a wonderful doctor, extremely knowledgable, listens and spends time answering questions and explaining medical issues, but the administration of his office is horrible. Every phone number you call gets you to voicemail with a return call within "24 - 48" hours. When they do call back it is clear they didn't listen to the message, just called the number you left, which means another day or two of waiting while they "check" on your issue/problem with the doctor. Trying to get them to file the appropriate forms required by disability insurance, DC medical marijuana, insurance etc. can take months -- with not explanation or feedback. Calling with symptoms and questions is likewise frustrating. Return calls a bit faster, but still several days pass before you can get an answer/new medication/other advice. That's a lot when you are in pain. Phone is the only way to reach Dr. Tornatore -- no email, fax number that more often than not is not working. A great doctor isn't so great if you can't get in touch with him! Love the doctor, hate the administrative hassle that builds an often insurmountable wall between us. Have been with Dr. Tornatore for over 12 years. This has been an ongoing problem and I have finally had enough. Looking for another neurologist. Maybe he won't be as good, but if I can actually reach him, it's better than what I have now.

Dr. Carlo Tornatore is a neuro-rock-star. He saved my husban's life when first diagnosed with MS. Because back in 2003 being diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS and at that time no drug therapy- no other neuro wanted to put him on an MS drug. Dr. Tornatore did not let this stop him. He admitted my hubby to GUH and provided a steroid treatment and the beginning of MS Drug Therapy. He saved my husband's life!

You will not find a more professional or caring staff. And, Dr. Tornatore is absolutely the finest person and best neurologist you could ever hope for. He speaks to you in real talk... not doctor speak! The care and the caring can not be matched.

Very knowledgable and caring doctor; ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE TRYING TO MAKE FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENTS. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO COMMUNICATE WITH HIM OR HIS OFFICE. USES ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY VOICEMAIL WHICH IS USUALLY FULL SO YOU CANNOT LEAVE A MESSAGE.ALMOST ALWAYS DOES NOT REPLY TO EMAILS.

Stellar doctor, great interaction with patients, but incredibly hard to get a hold of. Phone system stinks, office staff very unhelpful, mailboxes often full so cannot leave messages, takes anywhere from 3 to 10 days to get a response ie. problem, change in condition, analysis of test results already in his possession, etc. His knowledge and demeanor cannot be beat, but responsiveness is abysmal.

Dr Tornetore is a wonderful person, but I can’t recommend him as a doctor for 4 reasons: 1) He misdiagnosed my problem (as confirmed by 2 specialists I’ve seen since). Had I followed his diagnosis & treatment plan, I’d be on some very scary rx. I’m not an MS patient, though. My friend with MS loves him. 2) Contacting him is nearly impossible. It can take weeks of leaving messages to get an appt (and then it’s a 2-8 month wait for the appt itself). Calls for advice on issues like reactions to rx & symptom flare ups are usually not returned. Waiting room waits are usually brief, tho I once waited for over 6 HOURS. 3) Doesn’t keep detailed records. I was shocked when I got a copy of my records & found little info on my very complicated history. He couldn’t possibly provide accurate advice based on what he had written down. 4) Always has students present during appts. He can seem more interested in teaching than in his patient & it is awkward to discuss symptoms in front of a group.
