Please get a second opinion before you undergo any procedure such as the STHD procedure provided by Dr. Maharaj. My issue was not nearly as bad pre op and it is post op. I am now almost two years post surgery, and that procedure only made my condition worse. It seems like a cash grab, pushing a non OHIP surgery.

Furthermore, post op care is non existent in this clinic. Even if you reach out, he will not see you or address your concerns. What surgery does not schedule follow ups till 6 months after? And then when you do reach out refuse to see you. Either way, please do your research and don’t be easily influenced by this doctor

I had been struggling with multiple, large hemorrhoids for 4 years, with frequent bleeding. The previous specialist I saw advised that the only permanent solution available was endoscopic hemorrhoidectomy (surgical removal) or rubber banding, which would be very painful with a long recovery, otherwise to manage with diet & topical medication. I tried that for 4 years while my condition worsened, until by the beginning of 2024 I was bleeding every day for a month. I was so fortunate to find Dr. Maharaj. He explained that there was a new and better option - laser hemorrhoidoplasty. This would remove most or all of my hemorrhoids in one treatment (as opposed to multiple surgeries), be much less painful, and recovery would be 1-2 weeks (instead of 4-8 weeks). I had the laser treatment 2 weeks ago and am fully recovered! I only had a bit of pain for the 1st 2 days after treatment, with a small amount of bleeding while healing. The staff was knowledgeable & friendly, and Dr. Maharaj made himself available to answer all of my questions both before and after my treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Maharaj & laser hemorrhoidoplasty for anyone suffering with painful, bleeding hemorrhoids. It’s unfortunately not covered by OHIP, but worth every penny! Sandra K. Toronto

Dr. Maharaj was the only doctor who helped me solve my problem. I’ve been battling with internal hemorrhoids since my early thirties. After many unsuccessful conservative treatments, my GO referred me to Dr. Maharaj recommending him as the best specialist in the GTA for this type of issues. He was right!

Dr. Maharaj was very professional from the very beginning. He’s also one of the few specialists in Toronto on laser hemorrhoidoplasty. After performing a sigmoidoscopy, he diagnosed me with multiple internal hemorrhoids that would require multiple sessions with conventional means, such as banding or hemorrhoidectomy. Not to mention the long recovery times every time after each operation. My case was ideal for laser treatment, and I’m glad I agreed. The majority of my hemorrhoids were treated in one session and I was back to normal in a couple of weeks pain-fee and without any more bleeding. And the associated cost was much less than I was reading online from other clinics in Canada or the US.

What is more, Dr. Maharaj bedside manners are exceptional; he calmly explained to me all possible surgery options and responded to all inquiries I had post-op on the same day! He made me feel safe as he would respond to all my questions after the operation despite having a very busy schedule (he’s in high demand).

I learned that no hemorrhoid surgery is 100% effective for cases like mine that have a strong genetic component. When I had to see Dr. Maharaj again, he booked my second operation quickly and addressed the residual hemorrhoids (this treatment was covered by OHIP). During my recovery I experienced pain due to a fissure (it may happen sometimes after such a surgery), but Dr. Maharaj gave me a detailed recovery plan that helped me get back on my feet in one month’s time.

In my opinion, Dr. Maharaj is an excellent doctor who really knows his craft and cares for his patients.

Dr. Maharaj and his amazing team changed my life! I came across his practice in 2023 while endlessly searching for new hemorrhoid treatment options after no luck with all of the typical treatments. Believe me, I tried everything and with my problem worsening, surgery was looking inevitable. In my area, Northern Ontario, it took over a year just to see a specialist for banding - only to have poor results, wait months for another follow up appointment and feel things getting worse.

I was literally in tears when I called his office and within minutes the receptionist made me feel like I was talking to family and that they would take care of me. Within a few weeks I flew in for a consultation and treatment. I ultimately chose the LHP option and although not covered by OHIP, the results were incredible and the healing time was very short. I went from constant pain and anxiety to feeling like my cheerful and optimistic self. If you have the means to do this, please do not hesitate to do this for your mental and physical wellbeing. I hope that this treatment option can be available to everyone through OHIP someday.

I came to Dr Maharaj by recommendation of my family Dr. I have struggled with hemmorids for many years and the specialists that I had gone to see recommended, diet change and more surface solutions. I believed that this was an issue that I was going to be stuck with for the rest of my life. Dr Maharaj took the time to answer all of my questions. He was very accommodating in making sure I understood what was happening and that I understood all of the options that he was presenting.
He let me know about the risks and made me feel confident in going through with the surgery. He was very helpful and attentive post surgery and made himself available to walk me through a healthy recovery. One of the very best experiences that I've ever had with a medical professional. Excellent "bedside manner", knowledgable, accessible and a great sense of humour. I'm very grateful to have met him.

I came to him with a painful fissure. He spent the whole time trying to convince me to have non OHIP covered surgery for my hemorrhoids at great expense.
