Go to Dr. Kucharczuk! He is wonderful. I went through a lengthy emotional ordeal getting the lesion on my lung worked up (cancer) and then having my lung removed, and Dr Kucharczuk was with me at every step. When you see a doctor at a place like HUP, you expect them to be clinically competent and of course, he was. But he was so much more. He discussed my equivocal test results personally with other clincians, he battled my insurance company, he welcomed the involvement of my parents and spoke with them personally, he respected my concerns while encouraging me to take additional steps. The best thing I can say is that he was genuinely kind, not a characteristic you expect in thoracic surgeons who mostly think and act like they are gods. I really felt that he took a personal interest in my care and my health.
