I was born with bicuspid aortic valve and have seen a cardiologist annually for last 60 years (I'm 70 now). Was always told I would likely need valve replacement at some point. My cardiologist for past 7 years in Burlington retired March/23 and asked IF I wanted referral to cardiac surgeon although surgery not imminent. THANK GOD I SAID YES. First thing Dr. Whitlock said to me when I saw him 2 months later was that I needed open-heart surgery. APPARENTLY cardiologist never told me that my valve problem predisposes me to aortic aneurysm and that my aneurysm was FAR LARGER than the point at which surgery is done - thank God she retired!. It was a huge surgery to repair valve and large section of aorta to remove aneurysm and the post-op recovery did not go well. I ended up with huge bilateral pulmonary emboli and excessive delirium and was on life support for 7 days. Throughout the entire experience at Hamilton General Dr. Whitlock was always kind and compassionate. He will answer EVERY question you have and apparently checked on me in ICU constantly. He answered evey question before my surgery (4 pages of them) and all questions at my follow-up appointments. Since I have a medical background I had a lot of questions! Even Dr. Ainsworth, head of cardiology & ICU did a Zoom call with me to answer questions. EVERYONE there was just AWESOME! Not only is Dr, Whitlock a brilliant surgeron, but to find a surgeon who doesn't have a god complex but is the complete opposite in caring for his patients is incredible. I can't thank him and the staff enough for their care & compassion!!!

Dr. Whitlock is a God Given gift to the community. He is an excellent surgeon with heartfelt compassion and care for his patients and their caregivers. My sone had an open heart surgery due to endocarditis and Dr. Whitlock and his team made this extremely challenging time for both my son and us an easier journey. I can not thank him enough. He is simply the best.

I need a triple bypass he looked at me told me he would not operate on me I was going to dye. Why because I was a smoker. For an entire year I lived in fear that this would be my last day. I quit smoking and returned to him only to hear the same harsh comments. No bed side manner was ever present in his dealing with me. Finally he told me he would send me to see about stents but as he said he figured they wouldn't do them either. Thank God for the doctor I seen because he did the stents 2 days later. That was 9 years ago. So I personally do not think that Whitlock is a great surgeon I think he has a bad GOD complex

Premised on our experienceof having Dr Whitlock replace my wife's Aortic valve in 2017, 5 yrs later, along with every other 5 star rating, I'd have to say that anyone giving less than a 5star rating has a serious personal issue. Just saying. Have no fears, he's the best!

If I could rate 0 I would. Sloppy. Doesn’t follow up on the orders to see if it is safe. Including consults with Nephrogy services. Resident orders Bisoptolo 15mg on an Asthmatic pt with a HR in the 40’s and Bp of 100/50 and is a kidney transplant pt. Dangerous.

Dr. Whitlock performed the Ross Procedure to save my life on July 29, 2021. I am 53 years old. It has been just over six months and my recovery was ahead of schedule all along. Being such an aggressive procedure, Dr. Whitlock and his team made me feel perfectly at ease going into the procedure, and very attentive during my recovery stay at the hospital in Hamilton. If you require life saving heart surgery, this is the doctor you want by your side. Thank you, Dr. Whitlock for saving my life.

Dr. Whitlock performed a mitral valve replacement, tricuspid valve repair and septal myectomy on March 22, 2021. I am so thankful to him as I wouldn't be here today. He is a professional, compassionate, dedicated doctor and he spent time explaining what would be done the evening before my surgery in the hospital. I was so lucky to have him as my surgeon.
