I thought that Dr. Ara Deukmedjian was one of the most skilled neurosurgeons in the world with his cutting edge technology called DLDR (Deuk Laser Disk Repair) and Deuk Plasma Rhizotomy but the whole experience was very disappointing and very painful.
I was told in July 2023 that I would be pain free after the procedures and that I wouldn't require opioids to go back to Australia.
I travelled all the way to Melbourne Florida from Melbourne Australia to the Deuk Spine Institute because I couldn't find this technology in Australia. I didn't want a fusion in my neck, but a minimally invasive procedure.
I had the following procedures done to my neck and back between 29 August and 30 August 2023:
Deuk Laser Disc Repair C5-C6, C6-C7; Deuk Plasma
Rhizotomy C5-C6, C6-C7, C7-T1; RT L4-L5, L5-S1; BL SI Joints
Dr Deuk stated that the operations were a success., but I have been in much more extreme burning pain than before the operations. I have developed a dropped head after the surgery with terrible chronic burning pain in the neck. I didn't have the dropped head before the surgeries. Sleep is impossible, sitting and standing are difficult. My neck is extremely stiff.
After going back to AUS I got new MRIs.
The latest MRI report states the following:
Postprocedural inflammation of the posterior neck paraspinal muscles.
There is a focus of ill-defined
hyperintense collection adjacent to the left C6-C7 facet. Superimposed infection cannot be excluded and clinical
correlation is recommended.
At C5/C6, there is disc degeneration with disc osteophyte bulge causing mild canal stenosis. There is bilateral
uncovertebral joint arthrosis with bilateral foraminal stenosis.
At C6/C7, there is disc degeneration. Broad-based disc bulge is noted. No canal stenosis. There is bilateral
uncovertebral joint arthrosis and bilateral foraminal stenosis.
I thought the surgery was going to get rid of this disc bulging that was pressing on the nerves causing the chronic cervical pain. I had pain before going to Florida, but I only used to get sore when going to sleep. I was able to walk with an erect head and drive the car.
Now my neck is massively burning, hurting 24/7 and it is very stiff. I can't manage the pain with Gabapentin, Baclofen and Tramadol. I get referred atrocious pain in my traps, shoulders, hands, fingers plus headaches, painful pins and needles, electric shocks. Since the back rhizotomies I am getting strong pain in my back, referred pain in the groin, legs and feet. The lancinant pins and needles hurt my feet. There is more numbness than before. I also get pain going through my right knee when walking and sitting.
My life is a daily hell. I am very restricted in doing things and worse off due to the relentless excruciating pain.
Dr. Deuk is has screwed my neck and back. I paid a fortune for these surgeries but am worse off then before. I have been suffering debilitating, unbearable burning pain since after the procedures in Aug 2023.
I thought that the pain would reduce over time but it hasn't. The pain has dramatically increased instead.
I have been told to wait up to 6 months, but the pain is not improving yet. These procedures ruined my life.
Today is Christmas day 2023, nearly 4 months after the surgery and am in constant severe pain affecting my quality of life.
I do not recommend Dr Deuk!
