As many other patients have shared, Dr. Katzman can come across as cold and harsh. However, she helped my daughter to beat her eating disorder in less than a year. She’s tough - and that’s exactly what you need when you’re fighting against an eating disorder. You want her on your team!! Very grateful for the care she provided to my daughter and our family. Thank you Dr. Katzman.

I want it known that this is the best doctor I have ever had. Yes she is intense, yes she can be harsh, yes she is strict. But she will get you healthy and she will give you the life you deserve to have. She has been saving lives since the 90s. If you are expecting a compassionate shoulder to cry on and have you’re tears wiped away this is not the person to come to. If you want your child weight restored, on their way to a healthy life then this is the doctor you need. She is world renowned for a reason. She is cold and harsh because the eating disorder is one of the most manipulative diseases around and will try anything it can do to survive (as we all know this) this is why her demeanour is so armoured. It’s her way of not allowing any chance of the ED in. This woman has saved my life. Thank you doctor Katzman. Thank you for helping me when I could not help myself, when I ate with everyone but refused to eat with my mom, when the NG was put on the table and I was able to eat with my mother again. We now share family dinners, we now have a restored relationship, we now laugh over dessert. and I owe this to YOU. Not everyone will understand the way in which you are but I wouldn’t be where I am today if you were any different.

I would not recommend Dr. Katzman. She is condescending and uncompassionate. She will invalidate your feelings and make you feel small. She will cut you off when you try to explain your thoughts and scold you for “not listening.” As a result the treatment she gives you doesn’t fit because she doesn’t listen and thinks that she’s right no matter what.

She is very knowledgeable. She in intimidating but has your health, well-being, and recovery as her top priority. Recovering from and treatment of an eating disorder is extremely challenging and it is not for the light hearted. There’s actually very little appreciation, especially from patients that have an eating disorder - they cant see it in the thick of their illness, but they need someone that is firm, extremely knowledgeable, and wont allow your eating disorder to win. This is who Dr Katzman is. Thank you Dr Katzman for all your dedication and for saving so many lives.

I had Dr. Kat man as my main doctor and I have PTSD because of my experience and her. I was the youngest patient admitted ever to the ED unit at SickKids. Did she keep my alive? Maybe. Did she affect me for a number of years. 100%. This woman should not be working in healthcare - let ALONE with ED patients. Disappointed in the hospital for allowing this to happen when I could do the job better with my eyes closed.

Like the other comments, this person is rude and a bully. She approached our daughter in her room at the ED dept. without parental consent and berated her. She said she was disappointed and disgusted that my 15 was not eating. She then said she was going to put a NG tube in my daughter without consent. I don't know how she is allowed to work with children at sick kids.

I am saddened to know that this woman is still working with kids. She was my Dr. over 20 years ago when I was admitted for severe anorexia in the 90’s at age 16 due to abuse I endured as a child (which I didn’t know then) . She was punishing, rude, punitive and a straight up bully. I have since recovered - in spite of her recommended treatment. She shamed us in the inpatient unit for being sick, reinforcing all my traumas. It’s funny, I’m almost 40, live a great life in New York and was telling my partner that I had a horrible menacing Dr. as a teenager and we googled her. Stay away from Dr. Katzman

I am absolutely disgusted that this woman is allowed anywhere near children, much less at such a reputable hospital as sick kids. She is rude, harsh, and incredibly ignorant about the emotional trauma these children are undergoing, treating them like prisoners and as though they should be ashamed and guilty for being sick. People like her are the reason relapse rates post-treatment in the ED unit are so high. She essentially kicks people when they're down, shattering what little self-esteem they may have and further propagating this huge psychological aspect of eating disorders. What an absolutely horrific doctor that no child should ever have to encounter.
