I was diagnosed with cancer several years ago and decided not to proceed with chemo / radiation therapy. The entire experience with Dr. Pinchuk was extremely difficult. From the 2 hour wait in a freezing cold room when he would be giving me my results to his cold response when I explained why I only wanted surgery, to the fact that he would never look me in the eye after I pointed out that he made a mistake on my surgery requisition. I had asked for a lumpectomy. He had indicated that he was going to do a mastectomy. I would have woken up horrified to have completely lost my breast. I had no means of supporting myself if I had to take time off and was already suffering from severe depression. I politely asked him if he could take a photo of the tumour he was removing and he said he would. But when I inquired about it, he said that he had accidentally deleted it. He lied when he said the surgery was effective and the margins were clean because when my second cancer surgery was scheduled, my other surgeon read out his comments which were the opposite. I was determined to take excellent care of my body and I did. So, 8 years later I'm cancer free, healthy and much happier. It's like he felt he was expecting me to die and didn't respect my decision and felt he was wasting his time. Overall, his behaviour made the entire experiencing much more traumatizing than it needed to be. Especially since at that time, I was 1 of 5 women who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in my immediate family (not genetic, either). I wanted to live, but I didn't want to be on disability like my older sister due to her chemo/radiation treatment. He just didn't want to understand that every woman deserves to make her own decisions and should be able to choose her own healing path.

Dr. Pinchuk is simply amazing. He is one of the most kind, patient and understanding doctors that I have ever met. Dr. Pinchuk took his time to ensure that I understood every aspect of my diagnosis and treatment plan, without rushing me out of his office. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with breast cancer but I would not trust anyone else with my care except for Dr. Pinchuk. He made me feel at ease and went above and beyond to ensure that I feel confident and comfortable with decisions that I had to make. Thank you for all that you do and for giving me my life back Dr. Pinchuk!

Dr. Pinchuk didn't seem to have time or want to deal with my health issue. I explained to him how this non-life-threatening condition was affecting multiple areas of my life and had been for a few years by that point, and that I couldn't seem to rid myself of it without a doctor's help. Both times I saw him in person (consultation and day of the procedure), he made repeat comments that clearly indicated how he didn't agree with the seriousness of my issue, even after, as I mentioned, I told him how long this relatively minor health problem had been going on (it's an issue that many people can clear up themselves in a short period of time - I struggled to get rid of this for years before finally going to Dr. Pinchuk for more of a medical intervention). I really felt as though he didn't feel my case was important enough or serious enough to merit his time, and his comments very much downplayed the seriousness of how I felt this was affecting me. On the day of my procedure he seemed like he couldn't wait to get it over with, and made comments (even after the procedure was done), that he didn't see my case as the most "medically serious" case he has seen (again, I struggled with this issue for literally years when for many/most people it can be cleared up in a week or two with home self-care). If I had any ability to rid myself of it without an MD's help, it wouldn't have gone on for 4 years, I mean come on. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one for helpfulness is because in the end, he finally did do the procedure for me. BUT, it was only after the issue worsened and became quite painful and went on to further impact more areas of my life that it hadn't been previously (work, for example), that I was able to get my second appointment. Overall, he really just made me feel silly or stupid for seeking help for this pretty embarrassing issue, made passive comments that he didn't see it as serious enough to be worth his time, and just made me feel really unimportant/as if I was wasting his time. Oh, and he should probably update his knowledge on the LGBT community and issues affecting them, and how even such seemingly simple conditions can have unique consequences for someone in that community. After the procedure, my issue has so far cleared up and has been a huge load off of me, both physically and mentally, so I'm really happy that I did get the procedure done, even though I felt I had a pretty uncomfortable experience with this doctor.

Dr. Pinchuk was the general surgeon who took out my gallbladder. I've battled an infection but he has been so diligent in follow ups and check ins I know I am in great hands. Amidst the covid19 pandemic he made a point to FaceTime me.
