I saw Dr Beran having been diagnosed late in life with epilepsy. I had been living in Canberra and doc there told me to see Beran as he had knowledge in my drugs etc. I saw him from 2002 until 2019 and am now relieved he closed his practice at Chatswood and I have no reason to see him. He talks forever about himself and his overachieving family. He points out all the many books , articles he has written. When I got vertigo he told me to see another neuro as he wasn’t interested. I did and I love the man and he is closer to my home, he gets terrific ratings, is very approachable . When I told Beran I had found this other neuro he spoke poorly of him , was rude , asked me what he was like in my appointment and I felt that was highly rude and unprofessional of him and told him so. Goodbye Beran

I’m not sure if he will ever see this now he is not practicing, but my new neurologist has shown me how much dr beran did for me, how knowledgeable he was. He was open to listening (after talking about himself lol) and wasn’t just about “playing with meds until we get the right combination” I miss you dr beran and I hope you a well.

I’ve never been so disgusted or repulsed by a doctor before.
Dr Beran, when stopping speaking about himself for a few minutes, was able to misdiagnose me and waste hundreds of my dollars on consistent trips to go and see him when I could have been re prescribed medication I didn’t actually need, through my GP (I was over six hours away from his office at the time).
I was medicated for years when I shouldn’t have been.
He was verbally abusive, asking me if I knew how disgusting I looked when I’d put on weight. Having previously suffered anorexia as a teenager, this was extremely damaging and contributed to a struggle with Bilemia for the next decade for me.
I should have stood up for myself then as a young woman, and didn’t, so I’m doing it now incase it can stop another young girl being triggered, traumatised and over medicated!
I feel sorry for you Dr Beran - you clearly have enough of your own undealt with issues, that you’re projecting the anger, irritation and rejection you feel inside onto others you see as in your control or easy targets.
On finally consulting another Neurologist I was diagnosed as not having any signs of epilepsy and finally taken off a medication I had been consuming for over ten years without actually needing to take it.

Receptionist was great. Dr Beran was unpunctual, booking 3 patients for each 15 minute slot, he was always running late because of this. He boasted about owning a house on the harbour with a view of the "four landmarks" and refused to give me a copy of my medical records until I reminded of his requirement under law to do so. My experiences were generally consistent with those of the majority of others who have posted here. Beran is Czech for goat and this bloke is as stubborn as one. If you are referred to Roy, seek out someone else.

Let's put these reviews into perspective. Remember that anyone can post a review on this site. It's interesting to see that the reviews from the earliest pages (and for many years) are mostly negative and deal with a regular theme of this doctor's abusive behaviour, his tendency to misdiagnose, berate his patients and congratulate himself and his achievements throughout the consultation, thus wasting the patient's time and money and leaving them emotionally scared. You then start to see a lot of positive reviews as if there is an intervention of sorts to try and bring the average rating to somewhere near acceptable. But look carefully, because scattered between those positive 5 star reviews which suddenly started to appear years later you still see more of the reviews which describe a very unnerving and unsatisfactory experience. I definitely had one of those. Just appalling. What is it about some doctors who feel that because they are intelligent on some level and have certain qualifications, they have a right to shove their "greatness" into their patient's faces while at the same time belittling the patient, ignoring their words, berating them, leaving them feeling frustrated and ashamed while at the same time misdiagnosing them and writing out a non sensical report to the GP? The so called joke telling at the expense of a patient is not appropriate nor is the abuse.

In 27 yrs I have never seen a more arrogant, rude, deeming or self-righteous doctor! He told me to see a psychiatrist, called a previous specialist without my permission, suggested I was a liar, lied to me, told me to go off a medication I had been on for 10 yrs without a plan (there is a warning on the label to not stop it abruptly), and caused severe emotional distress to the point where I was in tears for most of the appointment. I was still in tears as he ushered me out of his room because he had already spent too much time with me! He spoke into his dictaphone for a good portion of the appt. On follow up, I had to do a 48 hr sleep deprived EEG. His "technician" abused me, abused his power over me and continued to put me in my "place" by telling me I was the "patient" and I would do what he told me - which included being asked my weight 3 times, despite being already given this info twice. Beran then did not address me during the follow-up but spoke directly into his dictaphone so I learnt the outcome of the EEG from this! It was beyond inappropriate. He manhandled me when taking my blood pressure, despite knowing I had a chronic pain condition. He taunted me during the appointment e.g. when he asked for my arm to perform a blood pressure measurement, I raised my left arm and he snapped, NOT THAT ARM!. I replied, "Well you didn't say which arm". He then asked my partner why was I so difficult? Thankfully, I have a wonderful and supportive partner would didn't take Beran's nonsense. He scolded for having high blood pressure (again), I then showed him I had since been to my GP and started medication for it, and a regimen to lower my dose of the other medication he had an issue with. This did not seem to go down well with him as it didn't seem to fit his narrative of me being the "difficult and uncooperative patient". Nothing I could do was ever right with him. I plan to report him via the appropriate channels. I am a health professional myself and his behaviour and ongoing abuse or people should be stopped.

Prof Beran has treated my late wife (who died in an accident) and I for separate conditions.conditions. My chronic sleep apnoea might have killed me but thanks to Dr Beran's very professional assessment and treatment plan, I have this condition completely under control. Highly recommended as a thorough and wonderful doctor. Ray W

My husband and I have been patients of Professor Beran for some five years. I am being treated for Parkinson's and we both have sleep apnea.
We have always found him to be very professional in his treatment of us. He has his own individual style of interaction with his patients.
We are very happy to continue a long term patient/doctor relationship with him.
