I would rate Dr. Herndon as the most thorough, cautious and efficient doctor I have. I've been seeing her for 18 years for back, neck, arm and knee pain. Early on she suspected I should have a dexa- scan to check for osteoprosis, but my insurance would not approve it. Finally after they allowed it, which I think was because of her presistance, it was found that I had osteoprosis even though I was just 51 years old. If the test had not have been done, I would not have been treated. She suspected that I had Fibromyalgia and sent me to a Rheumatologist who confirmed it. Fibromyalgia will ache and hurt in ways that will make you think something more serious is wrong. Still Dr.Herndon would investigate the cause of certain pain anyway. She has always been cautious about how the medicine used affects my body as a whole and would draw bloodwork. Elevated liver functions had been showing up in my blood work about 2 years prior to my seeing Dr. Herndon. She sent me to my PC doctor to have it accessed. A liver biopsy had been done in 97 , but nothing absolute was diagnosed. No one ever seemed concerned about it but her. At this time I was under a POP plan of insurance but finally my PC sent me to a Gastroentrologist. After seeing him and having another biopsy it was confirmed by the Mayo clinic that I had an auto-immune disease. Once again I would not have been treated, if not for Dr. Herndon. The medicine I take for this are most likely prolonging my life and providing better health. I've had knee and neck pain. She also treats these with caution. When doing injectons she makes sure everything is sterile and I am protected from the x-ray equipment while she uses a floroscope. She takes time asking me questions during office visits. I've had many whiney complaints throughout the years but she considers them important enough to see what they are about. All of my phone calls have always been returned and her staff are hard working, polite and trust worthy. I have great appreciation for Dr. Herndon and her staff. The Golden Rule is practiced at this clinic ..... “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

If you are looking for a compassionate pain management doctor start looking elsewhere. She believes it is only her way or the highway.I wnt to her with proven records of back and neck problems only to be told I needed a rehab clinic not a pain Dr.

She is a totally non narcotic Doctor. She spends 2-3 minutes with you and DOES NOT LISTEN TO YOU!!!!!! She want you to take the medicine she precribes for you and won't tolerate you asking for something else. In my opion she DOES NOT need to be a DOCTOR. Especialy a pain DOCTOR. I think she has never has pain of any magintude and has no idea what it feels like. Her staff never answers the phone!!!! They make you leave a message and they don't contact you for 2 days. DON'T plan on getting good pain relief from her!!!! DON'T waste your money on her. I realize she is nearly the only pain specialist in Gainesville but you should find someone else!!!!!

Dr. Herndon is a very good doctor but she never checked me for lyme disease and I went to her for 6 years thinking I had FM/CFS. Blood work through Igenex would have saved me 6 years of needless pain and fatigue and no treatment for lyme disease. Many doctors are not trained to test for viruses and bacteria. Chronic lyme disease can mimic illnesses including MS, Lupus, ALS, CFS/FM and many others. These pain management doctors are not trained to get beyond a diagnosis of syndromes to the root of the problem. I liked her very much as a doctor and she was kind to me but it didn't help with my illness. It wasn't until I went to a Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center that I was tested for bacteria (lyme disease) and viruses of which I had 3 that were very active in my suppressed immune system. I have been in treatment for a year now and am slowly getting well.
