In surgery and appointments Dr. Half is respectful, pleasant, capable and his MOA is super caring. He is one of the best communicators for surgeons. Great experience having his for a doctor and the nurse at the hospital said he is well liked there too!

Dr Half was an incredible doctor to deal with and was a great experience (for the circumstances anyway!) I was dealing with a lot of pain and pressure, a lot of flare ups, I had a handful of fibroids, the largest one was 12 cm growing off my uterus, pressing on my bladder and bowel, so after many years, I ultimately decided to get a hysterectomy (I'm 35, no kids) He patiently informed me of options and was also very understanding and kind with certain things that I would accept during surgery and certain things I wouldn't. Every appointment I had, he was easy going, informative, funny and professional. I went on the lupron depot shot 3 months before surgery to try to shrink the fibroid, which other than a few hot flashes, had none of the scary side effects. Day of surgery, everything went smoothly, the surgery even took a bit longer than expected because he wanted to be careful, thorough and make sure I was safe and had the best outcome. Which I did! Surgery is always very stressful, there's a lot of what if's, its an up and down road for sure, healing definitely does take longer than after the 6 week check up....but I can say, 4 months after surgery now, that I'm feeling amazing, things have settled and I appreciate so much having been under the care of Dr Half🙂

I met Dr half during the worst time of my life. My baby died at 18 weeks, on my birthday. The hospital staff referred to my baby as tissue and fetus, and Dr. Half was the only one to use the word baby. He did my DNC. He also became my doctor during my next pregnancy, due to my anxiety after the loss, and delivered my beautiful boy. I recently just went in to see him about my endometriosis, and Dr. Half gave me so much information on my options. He’s very kind, very empathetic, and very knowledgeable.

He is simply not only the warmest empathetic Doctor you will ever meet - he has the skill that makes him a cut above all other gynocologists I have met in Kamloops, Vernon and Vancouver. He saved my life - he got me into Vancouver General cancer ward to remove two cysts that both previous gynos chose to ignore - and their combined diameter (cluster ovarian mutated cysts) were 18 cm AND 15 cm. He is not the egomaniac that thinks he can maverick through anything with the limitations at our local hospital - he is prepared to fight to get you in the best hospital to give you the best chances. I was also given a miracle that these cysts that were ignored by the other two specialists (even told in Vancouver by the examining doctor that I had a 50/50 chance of cancer / in Vancouver cancer ward they do not release you until your cyst has been biopsied- and both cysts / pure miracle were cancer free. Thank you Dr Half for you pressing Vancouver to take me. We (my family ) owe you a deep gratitude. I get to enjoy my grand daughter and make plans for a bright future. Sincerely Linda Albert

Quite simply Dr Nicholas Half saved my life. A previous female Vernon Gyno wanted to sit and wait on surgery despite receiving the 13 cm plus size of my cluster ovarian cyst images! (The one cyst proved after extraction to be over 17 cm in diameter!!)

I told my excellent GP Dr Le Roux that I had no confidence in her treatment plan (sit & wait!) and after reading Dr. Half’s reviews I was able to sequester him. My former Kamloops Gyno thought it best despite 8 years of annual imaging with no change (prior to receiving my second covid vaccine) that a 7 cm cyst would likely shrink in menopause -NOT!

It was Dr. Half who sounded the alarm to the Vancouver General Oncology Team that he felt these ultra sound images were very disturbing. However, because I did not have pre-existing cancer markers - Vanc insisted that Dr Half remove them here on July 27/22. After prepping for my surgery as instructed by Vancouver - I was given the full general by my anesthesiologist: he promptly shut down my surgery after making three scope incisions. He and another senior assisting Gyno realized that the surgery would involve too great a risk to my life. A second surgery was then performed successfully in Vancouver General by oncology specialist Dr Andrea Neilson (part of Dr Mark Carey’s elite team). Dr Neilson confirmed that Dr. Half “made the right call” as the one cyst was over 17 cm in diameter and very challenging for the team to safely extract as it was stuck to my bladder (for some time!). With added tools/devices/experience - including putting in an insulation protective bag inside my cavity to contain any potentially carcinogenic spills from the syphoning process in removing the contexts of the cysts - they were able to remove both huge cyst’s laparoscopically without incident. It was sobering to be told in the Vancouver General pre-exam that there was a 50% chance that these cysts were cancerous. At this research hospital they perform a biopsy prognosis within 2 hrs of receiving the cyst and I’m elated to say no cancer in my blood work or the cyst. The second will be biopsied in two weeks (the healthier looking one). Dr Half forewarned me prior to surgery in July that if the scopes revealed extra risk - all patient have risks - but when an cyst especially of my dimensions is attached to an organ - and I had two huge cysts; that he would shut the surgery down. That’s what he did for me. That takes confidence, (and guts) and demonstrates above all - he puts his patients FIRST - not his ego - in ensuring their best care. My family, my husband and especially I - love you and honour you - for the impeccable selfless work that you perform day in and day out.

Not once but “twice” did Vancouver surgeons
Dr. Carey and Dr. Neilson applaud your decision to push me to Vancouver General to this elite team. Dr half had been collaborating with Dr. Mark
Carey’s team since “first” ever obtaining my referral and imaging documents. Quite simply - he saved my life and avoided the very real possibility of a much more invasive surgery which is slower in the healing process and has more risk of infection/complications.

I have seen Dr Half a handful of times over the years. He is personable, professional, competent, and has a wonderful bedside manner. He provided treatment options and always maintained patient-centred care. It’s always awkward to discuss “girl problems” but Dr Half does so with poise and tact. Absolutely stand out doc!!
