This doctor will not listen to your needs.
I know my body and she refused to help.
If you get her as a doctor then I would switch.

I think whoever wrote review about her is really telling truth. She is working there for a long time but experience does not say it at all. I think fixing donor lungs and giving transplant by Dr Keshav , Dr Singer, Dr Chapparo and other members of their team is very painful experience as these lungs do not survive. If you Think you can fix donor lungs why cannot you fix people after transplant. Care after transplant is very very poor. They just do transplant and make millions in surgery but so sad people go through so much pain after that, infections but no one listens, they keep them in Dark and do not tell them truth. I would say these physicians and TGH should go through audit and see what is happening there really, do we need these surgeries where people r still dying within couple of months. Patients r going through this do these people can make millions of dollars on them and then leave them to die.

Same thing happened to us. Toronto Lung transplant isn’t a program it is a club. Dr. Keshavjee as mentioned below only does publicity of himself and does transplant which he sees success to be successful himself. Dr. Singer including Dr Chapparo they all are playing games with people lives. Someone should look what’s going on in this club.

Dr.Cecilia Chaparro was the lead transplant doctor for my only precious brother who died May 21st this yr in TGH at his much younger age of Just 54 Years, being an accountant, with 2 small kids aged 7 & 9 due to a failed and unnecessary double Lung Transplant done in July 2018 much against the advice of the family but was talked into it without absolute life saving indication by her & team . He only had asthma and bronchiectasis for which Lung transplant is not the last resort life saving treatment at all at his age of just 52. My brother said that She kept on telling him during his numerous visits to TGH that if he did a double lung transplant, he could live for about 20 yrs, if not would die within 2 years . According to stats mean age for a life saving lung transplant is around 70 Years for a person with non cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. She and her team were trying various unwanted and unnecessary treatments like Xolair, prednisone too many times, put him on PICC line, frequent hospitalizations etc and only made his condition worse and demoralised him by the weeks and months, thereby encouraging him to believe that transplant was the only solution. She kept on magnifying about a very few success stories without explaining in detail about the enormous risks such as frequent rejection, life threatening infections that could lead to sepsis, failed kidneys and dialysis due to a vast cocktail of anti rejection drugs and antibiotics, very high early mortality rate etc. No detailed & proper INFORMED CONSENT was obtained without proper CAUSE. He was made to believe that TGH is the top ranking transplant hospital in North America and he believed and trusted her in good faith. When listed he was called in only 20 days and when he started panicking and caught off guard so early, had said would not come and he told us later that she threatened him by saying” I will remove your name off the list and you will die within 2 years if you don’t come now” . Just to honour his word and fearing for his early death he went for the transplant and that was the beginning of his end sadly
Within 6 months post transplant he started getting frequent infections and rejections that required frequent hospitalization with rapid deterioration for another 6 to 8 months. We noticed a lot of negligence, complacency, wrong diagnosis and wrong treatment such as instead of treating him for rapidly multiplying CMV infection, he was treated for rejection followed by unwanted Antipsychotic meds . All bse. this doctor has said CMV was not quantified to be treated where as in reality ” it was rapidly & dramatically multiplying within days” according to Dr.Lianne Singer who later even apologized to me for not giving the right treatment on time. This resulted in deconditioning of his lungs taking him to a “NO Return” state ending up in MSICU and on tracheostomy & dialysis in August of 2019 until his death.
Dr.Chaparro had no courtesy to even come and see him nor meet the family for the first couple of months until I demanded to see her She came for just a few minutes and simply said “Your brother Consented to it “ and walked away. She said she wouldn’t take responsibility .
He had a wrongful and untimely death because of this kind of unethical doctors who would in a way use vulnerable & gullible people like my brother for their own research etc to show numbers and flaunt as pioneers. I heard nowadays they even use so called reconditioned lungs by using even “bad lungs” like smokers lungs for example and transplant it into unsuspecting patients thereby reducing the waiting period. I suspect that my brother got such bad lungs resulting in his early death . This new trend I heard was developed by Dr. Keshavjee who is another overly ambitious doctor supposed to be the surgeon in chief. When we begged to him to try & save him with a possible re transplant, he simply said “NO he would die” and when asked about lack of indication for the 1st transplant, he said “don’t talk about the past”
Some transplant doctors even told my brother “sorry my friend we cannot save you, you could die any time”. It was a torturous slow death adding insult to injury by these immoral and inhumane doctors Many innocent people with lack of proper knowledge and awareness could be dying unnecessarily like my brother without proper indications, if otherwise would have lived much longer. Just with regular asthma puffers etc, he was leading a fairly normal life.. I too feel they should have done a far better job of being accountable for my brother’s preventable death that has devastated us.
Even during his 9 months stay in ICU he crashed about 5 times some to the level of code blue due to complacency and negligence by some nurses and doctors who would flatly deny, but medical records would prove otherwise.
Folks pls. take a 2nd& even a 3rd opinion and do a lot of research and study before giving consent.

I saw a comment below: "She often mentions that decisions are not up to her, but to the physicians and staff in the lung transplant program. The problem with this approach is that no individual or physician takes responsibility for the patient!" THIS IS PRECISELY TRUE. I have not had the displeasure of meeting her yet but this rings true. She was my Dad's doctor for his lung transplant assessment. I believe he saw her in person ONCE. My dad died waiting to get on the list because the transplant "team" couldn't coordinate their way out of a paper bag. It seems as though my Dad saw a new doctor every day and nobody talked amongst each other about his declining health. Should there not be one physician who is responsible for his overall care and monitoring of his health? Dr. Chapparo was the lead doctor on his file, so in my opinion she is to blame. I am wildly disheartened by the care and service of the TGH transplant team. For the premier transplant hospital in North America, I think they could have done a far better job of being accountable for my Dad's health.

An amazing physician! It's so nice to see a smiling face when you're in the hospital and hers is definitely one! It's also so nice that she works between St. Michaels hospital and Toronto General, so you can sometime run into her at the most unexpected times. Takes time to listen and get to know not only you but your family.

Dr Chaparro has provided compassionate, generous, kind but most of all knowlegeable and professional care to my wife who is a double lung transplant recipient for more than three years. Out of all the doctors and medical practioners we have encountered during my wife's transplant diagnosis, operation and post transplant care, there has been no finer Doctor. She is, without a doubt, a shining testament to the fine work that is performed by the Lung Transplant Program at the Toronto General Hospital.
