I have been happy to have Dr. Northup as my primary care doctor for 5 years now. He is very knowledgeable and caring, but office staff/policies are something that really gets in the way of primary care. It was not until recently when I experienced the real issues with the office policies and staff. On a Wednesday, I was sick with something that seemed to be a bacterial infection that is still affecting my respiratory system. I was and am currently very not well, but it did not warrant an emergency room visit. Friday, I was still running a fever and felt terrible, so I called to see if I could be squeezed in that day (Monday if I really had to). Tuesday was the earliest day they could get me seen. If I was less severely ill, I would understand waiting that long, but fluctuating, persistent fevers warrant quick help. I went to the urgent care that Friday and ended up being prescribed antibiotics. Well, I got worse Saturday and seemed to be getting better Sunday, but I was still running fever and developed other issues. Tuesday, I realized it was not just going away, so I first called the urgent care for help with getting a better antibiotic. They would not help me, so I called my primary care again. I first leave a voicemail for the medical staff, then I call the front desk. I asked her to please let the doctor or a nurse to know that I called and needed help. She was very nice and helped me in that regard. I got a call back soon after. The earliest they would see me is Friday, and they refused to write any prescription until then. I asked why they wouldn't write me a prescription, and I was told it was because I "have not been seen in 7 months." Well, I had no reason to be seen for that time. The same person was very unfriendly when I asked why that mattered (it suggests they would write me a prescription if I was seen more recently). The reasoning made no sense, but I was told that is what the doctor said. I understand not blindly writing prescriptions to people, but I needed (and at the time of writing this review, need) help. Primary care doctor's are the primary care. Previous primary care doctor's would squeeze me in within the next day for urgent issues, and I know of other doctors who do the same thing. My ailment could develop into something worse, and after these events, I can not trust my primary care doctor to see me for urgent matters.
