I was treat by here after a pretty horrific car accident in 2020 per my lawyers recommendation. Dr Chen has pretty decent bedside manner for an orthopedic surgeon (IFYKYK). I was charged 80k out of pocket, my pain was not managed whatsoever (my request for sumatriptan for migraines due to neck pain from the car accident he was treating me for was denied), the office staff are not pleasant, after injections they tossed me into their waiting room for my ride home still completely out of it from anesthesia hardly awake with no wheelchair, during my micro discectomy surgery I woke up screaming in between him moving from my lumbar to cervical spine due to poor anesthesiology AND I am having another micro discectomy in a week to fix what he apparently didn’t handle. As a person in my 20’s I was automatically treated poorly. Go somewhere else

I was referred to Dr. Chen by a very well respected surgeon, as I had severe back pain and had three surgeries on my spine previously, and the last one almost took my life and I could not risk another surgery. At first, Dr. Chen treated me with steroid injections before considering a spinal stimulator. Unfortunately, the injections did not help. We then proceeded with a trial of the spinal stimulator, which took about 7 days. I went through the trial, and it was successful. However, Dr. Chen did not explain too much about the stimulator itself and that there are two types: one that is implanted in the lower back permanently without a belt, but the one he carries (Stimware) requires a belt be worn with an external battery that has to be charged. Dr. Chen just carries the one that has to be charged, wearing an external belt for the rest of one's life. I asked if there was an alternative that did not require a belt, and he said there was one, and I asked why he didn't explain that to me, and he said it was because he didn't carry it. I asked why he didn't explain this earlier so that I would have had a choice to stay with him or see another physician. Unfortunately, Dr. Chen's bedside manner is not the best, and his front staff manners leave a lot to be desired and they were rude, and as rude as Dr. Chen. For example he spoke with my daughter long distance and in the middle of the conversation he left the room. That's how impolite he was. I then decided to go back to my surgeon for another referral, and after I wrote to Dr. Chen and requested my records numerous times, he never responded in a timely manner. Additionally they violated my confidentiality in retaliation to my stating that I was going to go to a different doctor. Finally, his office has way too many patients and they can't care for all of their patients, and give them the individual care that they deserve.

I love Dr Chen! I used to be in constant pain and after seeing him, it's all gone. He's helped me so much when other doctors could't help and I'm so grateful to him for that. I highly recommend him to anyone. He's smart and very knowledgable about pain medicine and his staff is friendly and helpful. A great doctor and a wonderful person.

Used to be a wonderful office. Now, unless you have just minor pains which can be treated very easily, don't bother. Front office staff is curt and impolite. Docs have gotten to big for their britches.

I think this man walks on water. He is so thoughtful; he wants to make you better, not add a bandage or administer a shot. This is not a factory. The staff cares and is kind. Always on time. He,literally, never wants to see you again; he wants you to feel whole. You will not be disappointed in meeting with him and trying to get to the bottom of a treatment plan and hopefully a resolution.
