I saw Dr. Garfinkel following a traumatic injury; I was seeing a licensed psychologist at the same time. Dr. Garfinkel diagnosed PTSD, with comorbid depression and anxiety. I was given a prescription for Pamela and Ativan. Being that I could not take the subway, I hired a rather expensive car service.

A month later I had to travel back to the doctor's office at Columbus Circle for a follow-up, where, after a brief and cursory discussion, Dr. Garfinkel renewed my prescriptions.

Because the practice did not have e-prescribing at the time, and Dr. Garfinkel would not mail prescriptions to my local pharmacy, I had to continue coming down to the Tribeca office to pick up my renewals. When I expressed my displeasure about having to leave my apartment every month and travel two hours to pick them up, against my orthopedist's advice (I was not supposed to travel), and that this was not what I expected from "concierge medical services," Dr. Garfinkel became quite angry. He tried to convince me that One Medical did not practice concierge medicine, refused to renew my prescriptions any more, and asked me to leave his offices and not come back.

When my prescriptions ran out, I went through two weeks of the most horrible benzodiazepine withdrawal. It was one of the worst mental and physical experiences I have ever been through.

In short: what doctor forces a patient with depression, PTSD, and a broken leg to travel 2 hours on crowded subways, then walk on crutches another half mile to his office, and THEN refuses to renew the medications HE prescribed for 3 months, causing his patient to go through benzodiazepine withdrawal?

I'd say Dr. Garfinkel's behavior was the most unprofessional I have ever encountered, and his refusal to renew meds HE had prescribed caused me great distress.

Draw your own conclusions.

Dr. Garfinkel is a smart doctor with an excellent bedside manner. He explains what he is thinking and listens very carefully. On top of that he is very nice. I have been so happy with him.
