Before you read, pls know I’ve reached out to speak with dr Burachinsky as well as the ENT And Allergy corporate team about this. It’s been over a week and no reply from any of them, which is why I’m going public with this… I know it’s long but if you’re a parent questioning your instincts, or considering seeing this dr, pls consider reading….
I’ve been seeing dr burachinsky for my 16mo since the early spring, convinced my son needed tubes. Convinced I’m seeing the same signs I saw in my older 2 kids who both needed them. He still doesn’t walk and hardly talks. I sat in that waiting room countless times, many times waiting an hour past my appt time to finally be seen (a whole different issue but be warned, maybe they overbook bc it takes forever to be seen. I asked him once why they can’t just call me and tell me he’s running so far behind so I can just come later and he kind of blew of my question) anyway, he was adamant that there’s no fluid so no need for tubes, and really started to make me question my own sanity. After sending me off to the Dominican Republic claiming there was no ear infection (news flash, there was… and days later he was so infected and sick that he needed a penicillin shot in punta cana). When the dr in punta cana questioned the decision of my American dr, I finally decided to drive 40 min to our old ENT (the one we used before we moved here) for a second opinion, and he said there’s no fluid but he’s got pressure build up and wants him on his surgery schedule as soon as possible. No question he needs tubes asap to relieve pressure, and to create a way for the bacteria causing these infections to escape his little ears. I was validated but furious. This child doesn’t walk or talk and has been sick and/or ornery most of his life. It’s been a huge contributor to my PPD, and I had really started to question if I was just making it all up bc of Dr Burachinsky insistence that he does not need tubes. I had asked dr b what are the parameters to needing tubes, and he said if there’s no fluid you don’t need tubes. He NEVER mentioned pressure.
My son had his surgery yesterday with our old ENT. After surgery, he said the ear drums were so concave from all the pressure build up, which was a huge factor in his lack of equilibrium. After a good nap, this now happy baby started taking real steps for the first time.
I know people love that practice, but if you have a little one and feel adamant about using them, I would urge you to consider a different dr. At the very least, if Dr B tells you that your baby is fine, don’t let him tell you that we’ll “keep an eye on it” and then wait as long as i did for a second opinion. Trust your gut, not him!!!! Notice none of the other 5 star ratings so far are about little kids.
