I don't understand why this man is still employed at KGH. I don't need to relate my experience with him because it is outlined in all the other reviews. Additional note being that I was given a painful colonoscopy which he said was my own fault. I made a formal complaint about him to the hospital--and yet he is still there!! If you are up for a colonoscopy check ahead which dr and refuse to be seen by Jacob Louw.

I’d been referred to female specialist for a sigmoidoscopy(partial colonoscopy) and she said it was “ischemic colitis “ and no further follow-up required!!! I then ended up in Emergency within months again and they again referred me back to GI Clinic and thankfully I was referred to Dr Jacob Louw. He said “let’s start ruling things out” and HE was the one who requested a small bowel scan and found something. He immediately referred me onto a surgeon, whom said it was very apparent it was there from the start…. I had a blockage in my small bowel which my at the time, family dr., had totally missed all the symptoms and said she saw something with my bloodwork but thought I just had a cold or something. And after multiple visits to her over this issue. for a year. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Follicular Lymphoma , Stage 4 after the results came back from my surgery. So I am VERY thankful to Dr Louw for finding the issue.

I was there for a consultation, because of other scary medical issues currently going on with me , having my scheduled , overdue colonoscopy needed to be discussed .
His resident was fantastic . Then Dr Louw came in .
He asked how I was , and I responded, “fine thank you “. He responded , “ then why are you here?” I kinda laughed but then I quickly realized how rude , arrogant and closed minded he was ..
He was not interested in talking to me about my complex issues , my fears etc … just gave me “ his way or the Highway “ responses … I left very upset and scared … not seeing him again

Absolutely awful experience with this man. First, he showed up over 40 minutes late for my procedure. The nurse seemed so stressed and worried to be assisting him and she was endlessly apologizing for his lateness. He entered the room saying that he "never has enough time for lunch" and completely ignored that I was a patient. No introduction, no debrief. Dr. Louw was the performing doctor for my referred colonoscopy & endoscopy - already VERY vulnerable procedures. While having full knowledge that I have a medically recorded resistance to sedation or anesthetics, Dr. Louw directed the nurse to "give the usual". The nurse proceeded to remind him of the notes and he completely ignored her. Once the procedure began (colonoscopy) I felt EVERYTHING to a level of discomfort that was intolerable. I began to cry and Dr. Louw referred to me as "dramatic" and said that I was "overreacting", all while sighing and making it quite clear that he was wildly inconvenienced. Once the first procedure had been completed, we moved on to the endoscopy. Dr. Louw looked me right in the eyes and said "do you suppose there is a possibility that we can keep the melodramatics to a minimum this time around?"

I felt so horrible about everything that I just wanted to leave. The post-procedure nurse advised me that there were "no findings" on the recordings so I left thinking everything was OK. Months go by and my symptoms worsen. I seek paid medical attention and my new physician requests the records from Dr. Louw's procedures. There ARE FINDINGS. Notes about certain things that are seen but he does not consider "substantial". The new physician said that this is unfortunately not her first experience with patients not getting the whole story from this doctor. I am now forced to possibly go through this entire mess again as its been over 1 year, and hope that I don't have to have another procedure by this dehumanizing, distasteful and unprofessional man that is unfortunately responsible for way too many patients.

Ignores his own records and previous suggestions.
Had to involve patient relations to get him to look at his own old records and and take my case seriously.
He's flippant, incredibly arrogant, and dismissive.

I really wish I had read these reviews before my visit to this arrogant SUB-HUMAN. He asked me if i knew why i was there and as i started to explain my symptoms he interrupted me and said..."so, in other words you don't have a clue why you're here"...it just got worse from there...i was so upset and confused when i left and ended up cancelling my procedure with the !@#$%...the hospital should be ashamed to have this dirtbag in their employ and there is no way that they don't know about all the complaints...does anyone deserve to be treated like that by this prick....NO!!!!!

Absolutely horrible bedside manner, wouldn’t recommend this dr to anyone. Worst I have ever seen out of a variety of specialists. Rude, condescending and inappropriate

Very rude and dismissive. Accused me of self - diagnosing myself, telling his GI Fellow (resident) that "these paramedics use terms to describe things they don't understand". This was said in the room next door with the door wide open and loud enough for me to hear him. I am a regulated healthcare provider, and yes, I'll use terminology that describes my understanding of my condition. The fact that your Fellow had no engagement with you speaks words to your poor people skills overall. Patients come to you because something is wrong with them. Do your best to help them without making it an awkward situation. Don't try to convince them it's all in their head. Don't blame them for seeking objective tests to rule in or rule out conditions. If asked to make a secondary referral, don't tell the patient they'll "never be seen" especially after they waited three years to see you. I left your office with no confidence in you. One day, your arrogance will come to bite you back!

I saw Dr Louw in 2019 after both an endoscopy and gastric emptying study showed gastroparesis. His resident stated I needed urgent treatment, but he disagreed. He told me it was mental and there is no way I have gastroparesis since I don’t not have diabetes. He let me starve for a year. I now have a completely paralyzed stomach (100% retention at 4 hours) and dependent on TPN (IV nutrition through a central line) to keep me alive. Myself and my GI doctor wonder if I would have received proper treatment in 2019 if I would have gotten this sick. Dr Louw is the reason I almost died and I will never forgive him. He is eventually going to kill someone’s. KHSC should of ashamed of this doctor.
