I recently had a consultation with a specialist in a completely different field than Dr. Louw and in completely different town. When asked if I’d had a GI consult before and what had come of it, I said that it hadn’t been a very good experience and that I didn’t follow up because I couldn't bring myself to see that doctor ever again. The doctor said to me, “Was that in Kingston?” I said it was, and she asked me who I had seen. While I was trying to recall Dr. Louw’s name, she said, “Was it doctor Louw?” I said, “Yes! That’s it!” She said, “That was your problem.” She said that this was not the first time she had heard this about him. She thought a GI referral was still needed and one is being made for me outside of Kingston to some who will “be nice to me.”

It’s pretty alarming that Dr. Louw’s reputation precedes him in appointments in completely different specialties and towns.

If you are referred to him, please save yourself a terrible experience and ask for someone else.

I have never had a less than helpful experience over the last 6 years dealing with dr. Louw.
Nice sense of humour and very realistic about my issues and how to handle them.

HORRIBLE doctor. Rude, condescending, arrogant. Makes you feel like you're stupid and even laughed at me in the appointment and looked at his Res. The Res looked down. I loved the Res and thought he was kind and helpful. Dr Louw should be ashamed delivering the care he does. I will never be treated by this man. I'd rather wait and continue in this pain than see him again.
Kingston - find a new Doctor. This isn't the values and level of care you pride yourselves in.

This doctor is extremely condescending like many others have said down below. He first asked personal questions to me about my career, and then compared his career to mine trying to prove how he was "better" than me! He also assumed that I consulted Google, which wasn't the case. At the end he just left the room talking to his res and they left me on my own without even telling me I was discharged. I've never seen a doctor ruder than him. If you can, avoid him at all costs!

Dr. Louw is absolutely awful. He had the wrong referral paperwork in hand and then wanted to argue with me about why I was referred. He was then rude, patronizing, and described a procedure in a way that it seemed he was intentionally trying to scare me. I was later told he was the most arrogant doctor in the department. I told the staff that I would not have the procedure done by him and will actually go out of town to avoid him. He is an embarrassment to his department and should be ashamed of how he treats his patients. Avoid him at all cost.

I too wish I had read these comments before going to see Dr. Louw. It might be useful for him to take training in narrative medicine. When I tried to tell him my symptoms he said, "I never listen to patients: they don't know what's going on." I am not a whiner or exaggerater or needy person. There is definitely a problem with how my GI functions, but he was clearly not interested in hearing the symptoms. Perhaps he has seen too much too often. It might be time to retire.

This guy is a piece of ****. Avoid him if possible and ask for another dr.
He will treat you like garbage and talk to you like you’re a child. Horrible experience. I feel awful for the staff that have to work with him him everyday.
