Dr. Wu is a very knowledgeable, conscientious and approachable cardiac specialist. He answers all my questions and explains things in clear and understandable language. He has an eye to the future as he explains where drugs/treatments are presently and what is on the horizon. He always keeps my referring doctor apprised of visits. His technicians are also very good and efficient - they know how to move the patient from test to test to visit with the doctor without delays. I always look forward to my visits with Dr. Wu!

The staff claimed they did not get the referral of 20 June and I followed up with the family doctor's clinic to get the referral again. The staff is not helpful at all, refusing to check the incoming fax/mailbox and there was no follow-up on appointments whatsoever. On 12 July, I finally secured a test appointment for my 90-year old mom on 28 July 2023. When I brought my mom to the clinic for the test before an actual appointment could be scheduled, I had a conversation with the nurse on the return of the monitor. I raised the subject of unforeseeable delays which was not allowed. I was told to bear the penalty in case of delays. She finally called the other two nurses to join her on our conversation and I had a feeling of being pressurized by them. I returned the monitor by the instructed time, 31 July 2023.

On 6 September 2023, I called the clinic as I had not heard from them for a month. I was told that the cardiologist had informed our family doctor that he would not be seeing my mom. I asked when was the message sent and what is the reason for not seeing my mom but was instructed to approach the family doctor instead. I contacted the family doctor's clinic but there was no information for me. The family doctor also told me that he had not received any message from the cardiologist. As such, he would give me another referral. I noted that there was a test report from the cardiologist and, hence, requested a copy of that. I received the copy and noted there was a message at the end of the report from the cardiologist "Daughter was very rude to staff. Please kindly refer patient to another clinic.".

My comments:

1) I won't beg for an appointment but does a doctor have the right to turn away a patient citing the reason that the patient's family member is "rude"? What is his definition of "rudeness"? What are the basic principles of medical ethics?

2) What are the rights as a patient? The cardiologist and his clinic have wasted the time of a 90-year old patient and the patient's family members. In addition to attending the test at the clinic, I am very concerned with the time spent on the return of the monitor and, in particular, the one month's waiting time to finally learn that my mother would not be seen. My mother should not be given the monitor to do the test and should be turned away immediately if I were "rude".

3) The only encounter with the staff was the test appointment on 28 July with a discussion on the return of the monitor. I am at a complete loss as to why the doctor gave such an accusation.

After an abysmal echocardiogram done in his office, with the report saying it wasn’t a clear picture, he claimed my problem was a heart muscle problem and he wanted to give me medication. First I had a blood test before this medication. Blood test showed I’m in heart failure. Echocardiogram showed I had aortic stenosis. When we asked to refer to the TAVI clinic in Sunnybrook Hospital, and I said it was my heart, he stood up and grabbed his own heart and said it’s HIS HEART. This doctor was new for me. I had all my files sent to him which showed I had already been in a coma due to my heart. I had open heart surgery in 2016. I need someone on point and understands the seriousness of my situation. HE DID NOT. Thankfully Dr Singh at Sunnybrook got me into the TAVI clinic. I had a new echocardiogram done at Sunnybrook. TAVI clinic sent me for an angiogram and cardiac CT scan . Results are I need a new aortic valve (surgery coming August 2023) and I’m high priority. Dr Wu wanted me on medication. TAVI doctors said I would die in 3 years without the aortic valve replacement.
STAY AWAY from this egotistic doctor who does not take a patient serious enough. Had I listened to him and not my intelligence, I’d be dead in 2 years. By the way, I had back up with a son- in-law internal medicine doctor and now my other son- in- law’s sister is a cardiologist but in Kingston Ontario. I need her to move here! Bye Dr Wu. You’ll get the update from the hospital. You’ll never accept you were deadly wrong and your echocardiograms in your office sucks.

Dr Wu is so kind and patient - a true professional . He explains everything so clearly to my 83 year old dad who has mild dementia. I take my dad to many specialists and Dr Wu is by far my favourite. Also, his office is run so efficiently - everything runs on time.

Dr. Wu prescribed heart medication to my grandmother that caused her lungs to fill with water. When my family asked to try different medications that could also control her symptoms but does not cause her lungs to fill with water, he refused saying there is no need to try, without further explanation. Later on my grandma was hospitalized and the hospital staff tried to reach out to Dr. Wu but he was unreachable. My grandma passed away and he gave zero acknowledgment. This doctor dodges responsibilities and isn’t there when his patient needs his input. I question all the short 5 star reviews he is getting.
