I had a complex tibia / fibula break that required 10 screws and 2 plates. The doctor explained everything thoroughly and asked numerous times if I had questions and I felt like he wanted to make sure I understood everything. Pre-surgery I felt confident going in with what was going to be done. At my follow up at two weeks we went over my pre-op x-rays and scans and my post op x-rays. I found him to be quite detailed and had a very nice personality. I would highly recommend him.

Dr, Urmson was the Orthopedic surgeon for our Son's fractured ankle, excellent surgeon, professional, skilled and answered all of our questions and concerns with clarity and understanding.

Dr Urmson is a great surgeon, he put my leg back together after a serious vehicle crash. He’s a busy man that’s for sure but he takes the time to explain the situation, operation and after care.

Dr.Urmson was great when I broke my ankle; the surgery was quick and easy. Never had to wait a long time and made sure I was comfortable. He was very understanding for me needing as much time as I needed to go back to work. As well as made sure my cast made me comfortable since I have a club foot.

Dr Urmson “attempted” to repair a lis franc injury on my left foot. Not even 3 months after the surgery the repair had failed and the bones spread apart again causing me considerable pain - his response was “wait it out for a few months and see how bad the pain is.” Thanks, but no thanks. I’d rather attempt another repair then settle for a lifetime of pain & discomfort because an inexperienced surgeon took on a repair that was over his skill set. The best thing he did was refer me to a experienced, skilled doctor who did a proper mod foot fusion leaving me with a fully functioning foot and very little residual pain.

I broke my ankle and had to go to city hospital to have xrays and casts put on several times. Dr urmson and staff were informative, professional and did a great job. I'm a little blown away to hear all the complaints about him. Good doctor in my mind. I dont need someone to talk to. I need someone who can accurately diagnose and fix my problem. The rest is fluff

I originally arrived at the very crowded, confused emergency at RUH to see Dr Urmson. Instead a guy without a name tag, would only mumble answers and no eye contact sent me up twice to get X-rays and then slapped on a very messy cast, that hurt more than my broken bone. I did not see or talk to Dr Urmson. I was told I'd need surgery which would be in a week. City hospital for a beautiful cast that doesn't hurt. Two weeks, Surgery and another crappy cast, are you kidding me? I don't expect every doctor to hold my hand. But did complain to my doctor about this cast, back to city hospital to get a decent cast ($25 well spent). It's an art. Healed up beautifully.

A year later, back to Dr Urmson to get the metal plate out. It bothers me every day, and that protruding screw is a concern. Best decision because even with new incisions etc, the ache I'd gone!!

I found Dr Urmson more engaged as time went on. I don't need hand holding, cut to the chase, do what needs to be done. Excellent doctor.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with those who say that Dr. Urmson is not a patient-friendly doctor. I fell in a Dollarama store and terribly broke my ankle due to somebody spilling body wash on the floor and the staff not cleaning it up, I broke all three bones in it and severely dislocated it. Dr. Urmson was my surgeon and though it seems he did a fantastic job repairing my ankle with plates, screws and pins, he has been completely indifferent to me and when it comes to getting all the medical documentation Dollarama has asked for to reach a settlement!! Besides that, he IS arrogant, he speaks down to you and has you out the door so fast you barely get a word in edgewise. Most doctors would be happy to help in my type of situation, Dr. Urmson, not so much. He rushes me out the door every time I've seen him (and I travel 60 km's to do so) and tells me I need to have a lawyer formally request the documentation I need and there is a substantial fee for having it done. Meanwhile, I've been laid up for almost 13 weeks not being able to work etc. how am I supposed to pay a lawyer or the fee for my own medical records and the letter from him?! If you have a choice and need a doctor who can not only help you heal but help you in a 'legal' sense or insurance-wise, don't choose Dr. Urmson.

Dealing with this doctor was my worse "patient - doctor" relationship I have experienced. I found him to be impersonal, arrogant, and very condescending. I would not recommend this Dr.
