After years of searching for a highly credentialed and experienced psychiatrist, our prayers were answered when finding Dr. Banks to treat our teenage daughter with severe psychiatric conditions.

So many psychiatrists quickly medicate and move on to the next patient to optimize profit margins. Dr. Banks is extremely thorough in his evaluation to identify root cause/diagnosis, conservative in applying alternative approaches before applying medicine, and above all, has a heart of gold when working with patients. Dr. Banks very much reminds us of a teacher, having a profound love for kids and a passion for teaching. Dr. Banks quickly became our daughter’s “security blanket” when working up the courage to face her demons and persevering to work through her treatment. Over time, our daughter overcame severe psychiatric disorders that would have been masked under medication, treated with unnecessary medical procedures, and saddled with long term health implications, had she been under average medical care.

So many professionals in psychology leave the parents completely in the dark, pit the child against the parents, &/ make unilateral decisions with the child against the long term well being of the child. Dr. Banks executes the highest level of integrity in uniting the family as a unit while keeping us parents apprised of our daughter's progress without compromising her doctor-patient confidentiality. We can also see how skilled and experienced Dr. Banks is in evaluating subtle nuances, adjusting course in treatment, and conveying technical concepts at a level that an average person can understand. As a result, we've been able to sleep again after years of living in a state of crisis management that became a normalized standard of living for our family.

Beyond being a psychiatrist, Dr. Banks has a very unique background in having a JD degree and was appointed a Visiting Scholar in Law and Psychiatry at Harvard Law School (on top of having his incredible, Ivy League, medical, background) and experience in education as the Chief Consulting Psychiatrist for the Greenwich, Connecticut Board of Education. He has played an integral role in helping our family navigate and remediate risks in working with school administration. He's also played an integral role in helping us strategize a path for our daughter to move forward.

In summary, Dr. Banks is truly one of a kind. He literally saved our daughter’s life, and our family is forever grateful for his care.

Dr. Banks has provided incredible care for me and many others I have referred to him. He has been truly life changing for many people. I have never met such an astute and caring psychiatrist, and I have known many in both my personal and professional life. Dr. Banks is an excellent diagnostician. He is patient, kind, compassionate, trustworthy, fair, wise and very positive. He always sees the good in people and their potential, which is very uplifting when people are feeling down. Dr. Banks goes above and beyond to care for his patients. He has a great sense of humor. It’s easy to talk to him. He is good with adults, teens and kids. He really is a true gem. Maui is very lucky to have him. People come from other Hawaiian islands just to meet with him, that's how good he is.

Anyone complaining about not receiving an invoice is an idiot. Dr Banks is a great and kind psychiatrist. Not an administrator, Too much paperwork in medicine anyway. Dr Banks is extremely fair and generous with his time.

The best around. Anyone who complains they didn't get a statement for insurances purposes is an idiot. Do you want a great psychiatrist or a secretary? Dr Banks helped me enormously when no one else could. He is kind, sensitive, warm and super,super smart. Knows everything and explains it all at great length. Spends a lot of time with you. He is just great.

Fantastic psychiatrist Highly intelligent and personable. A real humanist. Brilliant at diagnosis and treatment. Anything you see on this site that is not praiseworthy of Dr Banks is the one or two disgruntled pt that complains about anything or anyone. I'm sure Dr Banks helped them too. No doubt they have some axe to grind that is not even relevant to these reviews.

I don't understand these sites. Dr Banks is such an outstanding Psychiatrist its almost impossible to express it. He is kind, compassionate, brilliant, well trained, erudite and AVAILABLE all the time. Anyone who complains about fees should address their complaints to insurance companies or their bosses so they afford to see Dr Banks. Yes, his fees are high, but you have to pay for the best. There is no comparison between Dr Banks and any other psychiatrist. He has helped my whole family and I know he has a very satisfied and loyal group of patients. He is so successful he can pick his patients. Psychiatrist have a very difficult job dealing with depressed and volatile/impulsive patients. I sometimes wonder if people who are critical of psychiatric care know anything at all about psychiatry and/or still need help. There appears to be one(1) pt out of hundreds Dr Banks treats that wants to continue to complain about costs. Dr Banks is so good in his work. I am so grateful I met him.

Required to pay huge amount up front. Ended up not using him for more thsn 3 months. Refused to return remaining funds. Couldn't get statement...when finally did it was inaccurate and insurance wouldn't accept it. Rude.....becareful when paying and don't believe he will give you paperwork to submit to ins.

Getting a statement was an issue and it was Inaccurate when finally received months later. In addition required a huge sum upfront. Will never do that again....be careful

Seemed knowledgeable enough, however wasn't familiar with genetic testing for drug clearance. Also somewhat condescending. Lastly it took me 3 months to wring a statement out of him to submit to my insurance, and then when it finally arrived, he had forgotten to include my daughter's statement. Very very bizarre.
