Dr. Karlin is a very good ophthalmologist from a purely technical perspective. However, in my opinion, his interpersonal skills and beside manner are sub-par. His approach feels very mechanical. Also, if you have a Vision Plan that provides for an annual eye examination, I recommend that you do not see Dr. Karlin. His staff billed me for my routine annual eye exam under my medical plan. As a result, my routine eye exam was not covered 100%, and I was subject to a deductible of $124. His staff told me that if I wanted to have a routine eye exam, I should see an optometrist rather than an ophthalmologist, which I found to be absolutely ridiculous.

He is not good at giving clear information to patients. He is only focused on his field and even after knowing there are other issues... instead of pointing out and recommending to see the other eye specialist, he does not care. Whereas other doctors in his group provide more info . He is risking patients like that and his behavior is very rude.

Dr. Karlin is extremely rude. One of our family members is about to go in for cataract surgery and we had a couple of basic questions. The doctor did not seem like he had the time nor interest in answering our questions. He seemed rushed and put off by our questions. He also did not bother to explain to us what the procedure entailed, what to expect afterwards or during. The possible complications, nothing! He later passed us off to his front desk. If you want answers, don't ask him, go to a different ophthalmologist who has the time. The front desk is extremely helpful, but they're not the ones performing the surgery, no offense.

I have been seeing Dr. Karlin for many years. He treats my glaucoma and has operated on one eye. He is an excellent doctor! He will answer your questions if you ask, and his manner with me is friendly and helpful.

Dr. Karlin knows his stuff but his poor bedside manner forced me to seek another opthamologist. It is too bad. He is good but he is rude and arrogant.

Dr. Karlin clearly knows and is good at removing cataracts. However, his temperament makes the office visits unpleasant. His approach shows that he is too busy to provide good counsel - he never proactively explains the condition, medicial effects, operation procedures, etc. Instead he refers you to printed material that is poorly organized and confusing. When you do ask questions, his responses are terse and he again refers you to the printed material. Frankly, he comes across as arrogant, rude and somewhat mean. His office is often crowded, and each time we have arrived early only to be seen 1.5 hours after our appointment time. The staff, however, is friendly, and as a surgeon, he does good work. Overall, we fear going to his office, but put up with it since he is a good surgeon.
