I couldn't possibly guess how knowledgeable he is, just didn't have any time with him.
Dr Martin breezed in and spent 2 minutes making a decision. He had me hold up my arms in two ways and left. There was no time for questions. When he came back to give me a steroid shot I was not sure I wanted it. I said I had questions. He didn’t even look me in the eye just made his decision as to where to put the steroid. I wish I had been confident enough to walk out or at least refuse the steroid. I forced him to stay long enough to tell me I would not damage my shoulder with exercise. I also told him I already had diclofenac sodium and did not want to take it. He said he would give me something else. He prescribed diclofenac sodium and celecoxib and physical therapy. He did not examine me, did not ask about pain, did not explain pros and cons of steroid or the meds he prescribed. The diagnosis was adhesive capsulitis or frozen shoulder which he had seen hundreds of times. To be fair, he had a CT scan and x ray. He might be a great doc, but I would not recommend him to anyone. I want my doc to see me as a human being. Maybe he just didn’t think he would get any real money from me..

My 81 year old mother fell in Oct 2022 breaking her right shoulder and left knee. Her injury was severe. We were referred to OrthoAz Dr. Sheldon Martin. He seemed knowledgeable and confident about repairing her injuries. The problem is his follow through is non existent. His assistant says he doesn’t need to follow through. He just writes the orders. Ok so it’s up to family members to make sure that their family is getting appropriate care?!?! Fortunately I’m a RN and an advocate for my patients and most certainly my mother! Because there is no correspondence between staff, physical therapy and home health my mother is now 2 months further out on her care! Two months LONGER in splints and immobilizer!! It’s a circus there. Dr. Martin is only as good as his staff , follow through and communications. Passing the buck and blame is beyond unprofessional and irresponsible. After this nightmare is over, I would never return to Ortho Az. And I highly recommend others to look for a surgeon who has his finger on the pulse of his practice.

Dr. Martin replaced both of my knees this year. Recovery from the surgeries was smooth and I am now walking without pain. Dr. Martin is calm, competent, and reassuring. The staff at the office, the physical therapy, and the surgical center were all helpful and professional. I put these surgeries off for too long, and am so glad I had them!

Had total knee replacement one year ago. I did the exercise and Dr. Martin did the rest. I can play golf now with no pain after having knee pain for over 40 years. Outstanding surgeon!

Dr. Martin did such an excellent job with my wife's left shoulder, I ask him to take a look at my right shoulder as well; and I am glad I did. We are both doing very well.

Staff is great. He is not. Kept me waiting 40 minutes, condescending, argumentative and would not listen to me at all.

Several former patients and other Orthopedic Doctors referred me to Doctor Martin because of his expertise at preforming Reverse Shoulder Replacements. So, I had Doctor Martin preformed the Reverse Shoulder Replacement. Through the process Doctor Martin thoughtfully took the time to fully explain the procedure, the recovery process, the ultimate outcome and answer any questions I had. I’m thoroughly happy with Doctor Martin and his entire team. I truly chose the best surgeon and would highly recommend him to others. In fact I was so happy with Doctor Martin that he will be doing the same procedure on my other shoulder shortly.

Dr. Martin explains the problem clearly and tells you exactly what's wrong and what needs to be done. Also the risk, side effects and what it takes to recover as new. Very professional. Also him and his team did a tremendous job on the follow-up appointments and monitor the recovery carefully which was very helpful for my shoulder surgery's healing process. Job well done.

After having shoulder pain for over a year and being treated for bursitis with cortisone injections with no end in sight, I finally went to Dr. Martin on a friend's recommendation to get another opinion. His first impression was that we could fix it with physical therapy, which was a welcome relief to not immediately be told surgery was the only option. However, MRI results showed a bone spur and significant enough tear in my supraspinatus that would require surgery. He and his PA, Matthew Pavelek, as well as the rest of the staff at OrthoArizona were professional, answered all my questions, and put me at ease regarding the surgery. At just over 5 months post op, I have been fully cleared. Thank you so much Dr. Martin!
