I met Dr. Shah four months ago for a consultation for ongoing knee pain. The first thing that impressed me was his ability to read my knee x-ray and cogently explain how its degeneration had contributed to other physical ailments over the years. At the end of our discussion, the real question seemed to be “do you want it replaced, or to let it keep degrading and damaging other joints in your body?”
My knee was replaced three months ago and I am extremely happy with the results. Dr. Shah did an excellent job, and moreover answered all my questions before and after surgery.
Two years before meeting Dr. Shah my physical therapist of 6 years told me if I ever needed a knee replacement to make sure I got Dr. Shah. More surprisingly, while in the hospital overnight the day of the surgery, 3 people from different departments told me Dr. Shah was the best. Don’t just take my word for it, all of those people see his work daily.

Dr shah is an absolutely outstanding surgeon!
He replaced my left knee on November 30th 2023.
Less than 3 months later I am doing amazingly well.
I can walk without pain, my leg is perfectly straight and I feel 20 years younger! The scar is hardly noticeable.
My physical therapist said she has never seen anyone recover so quickly from a total knee replacement!
I had my right knee replaced 10 years ago at HSS. It was a much longer recovery, much more painful and a very visible scar.
He is kind, patient and you just need to follow his instructions. Which proved to be excellent and very simple.
I’m just sorry I did not do this sooner.
I was so afraid of having my knee replaced, but compared to the surgery on my other knee this was a walk in the park!
Obviously I think he’s great!

Dr Shah is professional, unflappable, skilled, decent. I never doubted that he would do an excellent job (I know a few other people who had used him). I went from constant pain to pain free. Very grateful. And very grateful to the chief anesthesiologist and to Dr. Shah's colleagues, nurses, residents and staff at Columbia Presbyterian.

Dr. Shah is OUTSTANDING!!! I went to him with a complicated case needing a revision hip surgery from previous surgeries. i saw other doctors before finding Dr. Shah and not one doctor would help me. Dr. Shah never hesitated to help and i was extremely confident he would help and could help me. everything was seamless from making my first appointment to my follow ups after surgery. the staff is overly friendly and never left me feeling like i still had questions. i would recommend Dr. Shah 100 times over. I wish i would have found him sooner so he could have performed my initial surgeries and saved me from a year of hell.

To all, if you live near NYC and if Dr. Shah takes your insurance, do your homework and go there. I did a ton of research before choosing Shah and it all checks out. Friends are suffering after 6 months. I went back to work in a week. My knee is a little sore at night a few weeks later, but its manageable and hurts less than it hurt with arthritis, which I lived with for years.

From my first appointment with Dr. Shah, through and including my follow up visits after a full knee replacement, I was met with superb professionalism, knowledge and patience while I asked my many questions. Dr. Shah was very attentive to me. He helped me to understand the procedure and he also explained to me my what my part in recovery would be. I felt calm and prepared before the surgery. Dr. Shah's precise skills helped me to walk unaided in two days, and at the two week mark I was exercising an bending my knee without any pain. Dr. Shah is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon and I am truly lucky that I selected him to perform my full knee replacement.

My knee was f'ed up by Dr. @#$*&% at HSS - Horse Sh-t Surgery. Really bad. I had a knee done 2 years ago and in huge pain the whole time. I barely moved enough to sit normally and couldn't get straight. Shah fixed me up. I love this guy. The redo took 3 hours but as soon as I woke up, I could move better than I could in years. I'm building power and have normal motion. Physio is shocked. If you have a bum knee replacement, you will be cured by Dr. Shah.

I just want to first say Dr. Shah is great. Super knowledgeable, warm bedside manner, and he will take his time and not make you feel rushed. However, almost as important are the financials associated with a visit. And here, his office and Columbia fall way short of ANYTHING resembling ethical and reasonable.

I was charged nearly 7X(!!) PER x-ray what I would be charged for x rays at another facility like Zwanger. Also, to be clear, I have Cigna PPO, so not some off-shoot insurance policy. And to be clear about one more thing, this has nothing to do with deductible, Columbia bills 7x the amount of everyone else I’ve encountered for these images. I know this because I called around and no place was billing more than $40 for these x-rays with Cigna. Here, I had 3 x-rays done and was billed $200 PER image and was not made aware of this prior.

What’s even more repulsive is the front desk and the billing department's response. Unfathomably rude in every regard.
