I've been with Dr Sanders for many years now. I have degenerated disks AND Metastatic Breast cancer, extremely painful conditions. He and his entire office, led by Tansy, are caring and understand pain and trying to live with it. I'll follow them anywhere

I have been seeing Dr. Sanders for about 2 years. I have a very complex set of spine problems due to injuries, degeneration and a previous surgery. He has been able to keep my pain at a minimum with injections and pain medication. The other option I was given by 4 other physicians was a 4 level fusion. Dr. Sanders is a God send.

Yelp:
Dr. Sanders subjected me to deceptive business and medical practices. He also reacts bizarrely and defensively if you confront him about poor or disappointing services. I strongly recommend NOT choosing him as your doctor.

At our 1st (and only) in-person appointment, in the middle of the pandemic, he wore no mask and held out his hand to shake mine, and when I asked whether that was appropriate he responded, "Oh it's all an overreaction." This is not the main subject of my review, but I believe folks should know that this doctor was not following general guidelines for reducing transmission of COVD-19.

At that in-person appointment, Dr. Sanders conducted no physical examination. He did, however, order an MRI of my lumbar spine. A few weeks after that MRI was done, I called to schedule a follow-up appointment. His receptionist asked if I would be willing to have that appointment via telephone, and I agreed to that. The appointment was scheduled for May 13, 2020, at 2pm. At no point was I informed that the doctor might call me at any time other than 2pm.

The morning of the appointment, the doctor's office called me to collect payment. I provided my credit card number, and they charged me $35 for the copay. The doctor, however, did not call me at 2pm. I waited more than 2 and a half hours. Shorlty before 5pm, I called his office to inquire what happened and to reschedule. I was told that Dr. Sanders was not in the office but that he would call me back shortly. I expected Dr. Sanders to call me to apologize for missing the appointment and to reschedule.

Dr. Sanders called me back, and wee spoke for less than 5 minutes. He was not in the office and appeared not to have access to all (or any) of my records. I asked him about my MRI report, and he told me high-level details about it, but he could not answer specific questions about the details in the report. I specifically asked him whether the MRI showed that my condition had worsened since my last MRI (from 2014), records of which I had provided to his office. Dr. Sanders was unable to answer that basic medical question, presumably because he was not in the office and did not have the records in front of him. Instead, he instructed me that we needed an in-person appointment to go over the details of my condition and my treatment options. In other words, the only thing accomplished by him calling me (nearly 3 hours after he missed the appointment) was to inform me that we needed an in-person appointment. He did not acknowledge that he missed the appointment entirely and only called me after I called his office (nearly 3 hours later and just before the end of the day) to reschedule it.

The phone call obviously did not constitute medical services: the doctor did not provide me my MRI report and was unable to discuss how it varied from previous MRIs. The only purpose of the very brief phone call was to discuss rescheduling the appointment he missed.

Shortly after the phone call, I emailed his office, politely requesting either (a) a refund of the $35 co-pay for the appointment that Dr. Sanders missed, or (b) have the co-pay applied to the next appointment. I was offering a reasonable remedy for the appointment that Dr. Sanders missed.

The next day, Dr. Sanders emailed me back. He claimed my email was "misleading and insulting," and instructed me to "continue [my] care elsewhere." He has refused to refund my $35 co-pay. I have made complaints to my insurer and to the TX Medical Board.

These are obviously deceptive business and medical practices. I strongly recommend not going to Dr. Sanders.

Truly, I am loathe to give Dr. Sanders one star. I don't believe he himself, deserves it. But his office, maybe him by extension but perhaps not, the office for sure.... just, wow. Wow.

Roughly in July, I went to Dr. Sanders at Texas Interventional Pain Specialist for the first time. For crying out loud, he knocked my socks off. Was personable, understanding, intelligent, and compassionate. Everything I had been hoping to find in a pain doctor. At the time I was being prescribed my pain medication by my Primary Care and no one exactly knew what was wrong with me. I have like 13 different medical conditions, we know that, but what is causing all of them? What is causing all of this pain? Joints, muscles, back, nerves, bones, my very skin...everything hurt. All the time. Everywhere. Dr. Sanders empathized and said he was going to do everything he could to figure out the root problem. I damn near cried, hearing that. He told me that he didn't feel comfortable giving me medication while there were so many records of mine he didn't have and that my Primary Care should continue to do it. In the meantime, he wanted my records and referred me to see a couple of other doctors because he had some ideas. Good ideas, too. I left, very happy.

I saw the other doctors and made myself an appointment to see him next month while getting pain medication from my Primary Care. He still didn't have the records he requested and the visit was non productive. He told me he still didn't have enough information. Okay, I understand and can work with that. He told me he would keep trying to get the records, I said I would try to get them as well, and that when he got them that he would call me. That coming in for an appointment before he got them would be pointless and to wait until he got in touch. Well, I left and requested the records be sent again. Then things started to slip. I was getting my medication elsewhere, told not to come in, and told that things were in motion. I got a new job that I loved and got very busy and just waited for Dr. Sanders to call. I'll be honest, about 3 months passed. I should have called them, should have been more on top of it, should have ect. But I didn't. I was distracted and stressed out. Things started getting flaky at work. My pain shot up and I was missing hours due to it. My Primary Care told me he couldn't help any further with the medication and that Dr. Sanders would have to take it over if something were to be done. So, with my job and "life" on the line, I called Dr. Sanders in January and made an appointment. I truly felt like I had everything riding on that appointment. The day of, I got a message telling me that since Dr. Sanders had not gotten any records that my appointment was unnecessary and canceled. I was not okay with this and I called back to have it put back on the schedule. This time I was told that because I hadn't seen the doctor in a few months, I was cut as a patient. And unfortunately they were not accepting new patients for the new year. So...not only did I lose my appointment...I completely had no pain doctor. I didn't say a word, just hung up.

I'm not going to lie; I snapped. I was under an unreasonable amount of stress, I was in pain, and I felt like I was losing my job and everything else with it. That is not Dr. Sanders fault. But it was the last straw for me. To make a very long story short, I lost it, was going to kill myself, was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital, and was held there for a week. In fact, I just got home a few hours ago. While I did not blame Dr. Sanders for the breakdown and my mental state, I did want answers as to what the hell had happened. Believe me, I had plenty of time to think about it in the psych ward. Why was I suddenly cut off as a patient? Why did I lose a great pain doctor? Why did no one TELL me? So I called. Perfectly calm, I wound up speaking to the "office manager" (or something of the like) and his name was Charles. I explained what had happened. I also wanted them to know that suddenly cutting off a pain patient who is in a great deal of pain can have serious consequences. Not just mine but it could cause a LOT of problems, suddenly losing your doctor with no warning. So I asked Charles. The conversation was very disappointing. Charles kept trying to turn it around into completely my fault. "You weren't here for three months". Yes, but Dr. Sanders told me not to come in until he said I should. "Technically, you were never brought into the practice. Those visits you had were just consults". Okay...why was I not told? And why was he referring me to other doctors and ordering test like a doctor if he wasn't my doctor? "Your primary care was prescribing you medication and two doctors can't do that at that at the same time". How am I supposed to know that? And why did he tell me to do it that way? And on and on. His final defense: "Well, we see like 30 patients a day". Yeah...not good enough.

The office manager Cindy is rude and does not respond well to patient requests. No one has ever bothered following up after appointments or returning phone calls/messages.

He is a great doctor who cares about his patients. He is the first doctor I've gone to in years that I've trusted. His staff is also great.

Staff and doctor were very rude. The doctor charged me $500 for a single brief visit, in which all he did was look at my back for less than a minute and recommend a physical therapist. Do not visit this doctor, he does not care about his patients and will attempt to rob you for every penny he can get.
