I am working out at the gym, 90 days after breaking my hip. Dr. !Michaelson had to replace my hip because of my weakened bones from osteoporosis. After couple of weeks, I only felt pain when I slept. Now my pain is non-existent. Dr. Michaelson and his team are caring, too. This was my sixth fall and sixth broken bone. I did not think I could work or workout after this serious break. But I am back to work and feeling great, thanks to Dr. Michaelson.

I will start by saying that Dr. Michalson literally saved my life!! There really isn’t a short version of this story so you may stop now knowing I think he’s the best orthopedic surgeon around Denver or you may continue to find out why I think so. Every year since my retirement, my wife and I spend 3 months in Florence, Italy - our favorite city in the world. This year we went in February for our three months. After three weeks of having fun and enjoying everything, we went to visit the David by Michelangelo - an annual pilgrimage for us. It was as awesome as ever. However, while walking home a businessman in a hurry pushed his way between my wife and myself. She was fine, but I lost my balance and fell HARD into the cobblestone street. I broke my left femur and was rushed to the hospital where I had surgery to pin the bone back together. I was sent “home” to the apartment we were renting and was told to keep all weight off my left leg. I spent the next six weeks sitting (and sleeping) on a very comfortable couch in the living room. I was in 7-10 pain 24/7 and pain killers did nothing to relieve it. By the end of the six weeks and ZERO improvement, I was very seriously depressed and convinced I would never be able to walk again. On May 1, 2019 we returned to our home in Denver. I had set up an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon before coming home. The surgeon I saw (Panorama Orthopedics) told me the surgery was fine and I should be patient. They also told me it was unrealistic to think that I would be walking independently before the beginning of 2020. I became further depressed. The doctor wanted to follow me in a month. But after three weeks more in constant pain, I talked to my PCP. She put me in touch with Dr. Michalson. I made an appointment for two days later. When I got there his staff took X-rays and brought me into his office. He looked at the films and told the I was in so much pain because the Italian surgery was failing. He showed me clearly that the pins which had been placed surgically were coming out. Without a moment’s hesitation he said I NEEDED a total left hip replacement and that that was the only course of action to take. At that point I needed someone who could make the pain go away and allow me to walk again. Dr. Michalson performed the surgery on June 10, 2019. The day of the surgery the nurses made me get out of bed and walk. I took two or three steps, but felt a strength in my left leg I hadn’t felt since the fracture. The pain was 90% gone and I was elated. That night my wife came to visit. As she walked into the room she started smiling. I asked her why - she replied that she was smiling because I was smiling and she hadn’t seen that for months. I went home using the walker, but within three weeks I was using only a cane. Now, just three months since the surgery, I am walking independently 100% of the time. I am overwhelmed with how much Dr. Michalson has done to physically restore my leg, but how much he has changed my outlook and my future. Thank you Dr. Michalson!!!!

Dr Michelson did my knee replacement surgery. His kind and caring manner were wonderful but his skill was demonstrated by how easy the actual surgery went and how fast recovery progressed. He will definitely be the surgeon I turn to if I need further orthopedic surgery.

If you are looking for a skilled orthopedic surgeon, you need look no further. You will be in excellent hands with Dr. Michalson and I recommended him whole-heartedly without reservation. He is The Best period. I am a 61-year-old female who suffered a complicated left knee and leg injury after falling from a ladder. Dr. Michalson was referred to me by the on-call orthopedic surgeon at Sky Ridge Medical Center because he specializes in complex traumatic orthopedic injuries. I’m still thanking our Gracious Lord Jesus for bringing Dr. Michalson into my life to repair my leg! He performed an open reduction with internal fixation of my tibia which included providing structure for a new tibial plateau because it was crushed in the fall. At a postop appointment about four weeks ago, following several months of diligent physical therapy, I still lacked full extension without pain. Dr. Michalson suggested that he could do a manipulation under anesthesia. As I was still recovering, the thought of more pain was frightening but I am SO GLAD I listened to his advice and allowed him to do it because now I have full extension without pain! It has been a little over four months since my surgery, I am still in the healing process and continuing with out-patient physical therapy, but I am walking unassisted, going up and down stairs and can see that I will once again walk normally and soon resume the physical activities that I love so well. So very thankful! Patricia Johnson - Highlands Ranch, CO
