I just completed my final appointment in regards to Cataract surgery. Unfortunately I would not recommend this doctor. While I didn’t make the correct decision in regards to what lens to get- when I attempted to have conversations about my options after my first surgery- I felt very uncomfortable asking questions. His answers were short and curt and basically made me feel dumb for asking. During one visit I asked him a financial question and was told … oh I have no idea… I guess I would have preferred- I have no idea but check with…… she/ he could answer that question. During my last visit- I left almost in tears-he truly made me feel uncomfortable about asking him questions. I won’t be returning and I wouldn’t recommend.

My eyes vision are getting worst after cataract surgery and implant. This is not a good.

Had cataract surgery in my only good eye. I feel like a new person and have 20/20 vision. Cannot believe the difference his surgery has made.

I could not put in words my gratitude for Dr. Essepian’s skill as a surgeon .

On two occasions he improved my eyes.

I was blinded from an unfortunate circumstance in one eye five years ago . It left me with a permanently enlarged pupil that was cosmetically saddening. He successfully preformed a surgery that reduced the pupils size normalizing my appearance.

Most importantly the second surgery he did was on my only seeing eye. I had developed a dense cataract .

I am a visual artist and for three months before he preformed cataract surgery on me I gave up painting . I had the surgery on Monday and today, Sunday , I was outside painting the landscape .

I can see better than I have for many years. It is astounding !

I felt completely safe trusting my only good eye to Dr. Essepian. I think, an others agree, that he is the best Eye Surgeon in the Washington DC area.

This guy is an ARROGANT little weasel!!! He was rude to the point I would go home pissed off every time I finished my under 5 minute appointment. I felt like a piece of meat just to make a dollar.
Vision worse after surgery "blamed me" what? He will never touch me or anyone else I know!!!
Absolutely would not recomend

my experience with the doctor was very good he was very nice and saved me from having surgery that was not necessary at all and im most thankful to him for that.

Both my husband and I have been patients of Dr Essepian since 2002 when my husband's retina surgeon told him Dr Essepian was the ONLY opthomologist that he would recommend to perform cataract surgery following the repair of a detached retina. We were so comfortable with his treatment over the years, including the managing my husband's glaucoma that when we moved to CA we continued to retain him as our primary opthomologist and scheduled all of our needed visits during summer trips back to the NoVa area. I have had both cataract and lens replacement surgeries with perfect result. Most recently, Dr Essepian identified a series of undetected small TIAs, prompting me to seek immediate attention for that condition. Having moved back to the Annapolis area, we consider the one hour drive in to Alexandria or Fairfax well worth it for the confidence we have in the health of our eyes. Yes, there is no joviality in a visit, but then that's not why we see him!

I have decidedly mixed feelings about Dr. Essepian. I have no complaints about my eye surgeries. Both were very successful and uncomplicated. In my book Dr. Essepian earns his reputation as a great surgeon. His staff were always very helpful and kind to me. His office seems well run and I don't remember ever waiting any excessive length of time to see the doctor. However, it is Dr. Essepian's bedside manner that I find troubling. Dr. Essepian can be congenial and even kind, but most of the time he is not. With me he was mostly curt, impatient, sometimes rude, and easily offended. He rarely offered information nor did he invite questions. Being a woman, I wondered if his attitude was the same with his male patients. I would be hesitant to recommend him to my family or friends.

I found the doctor to be excellent, he stired me away from unnecesary things .
The cataract surgery he did was verry succesfull.
