This review is not about Dr. Kulbersh's surgical skills. This review is about character. Trust that it's not in my interest or heart to spend time to go online and write a negative character review, but I think people should know about my experience with him. I contacted his clinic after Google searching for surgeons on the east coast who do CT custom implants, and his name showed up, so I did the Skype consult for $150.
I had a less simple case where I had a previous infection from a different surgeon + lost my previous facial implants + was seeking new implants of large size. For the purposes of anonymity I will not go heavy into specifics, but over the Skype call he seemed "nice enough" and said he would do my surgery. The discussion was that I would reach back to the clinic in a couple months to arrange the specific surgery date, but that, yes, he was more than happy to do the surgery. So in the mean time, I paid to have a CT scan on a disc sent to his clinic.
After a couple months, I emailed the staff briefly saying that I was now ready to move forward with CT design. I didn't receive a response after 10 days. I understand people are busy and the world doesn't revolve around me, but I found this to be unusual considering that prior to the consult they were super-quick to reply. So I sent Dr. Kulbersh a short follow-up email, again with no response. Then the feeling started to come over me, where I thought, "Am I being ghosted by this surgeon?" I phoned the clinic the following week and the receptionist essentially said, "Oh yeah, he said he doesn't think he's the best to do your procedure. We wish you all the best."
I'm left with thinking that he simply just wasn't confident enough to perform my procedure, and rather than telling me what he thought directly, decided to ghost me and brush me under the rug. By all means I have empathy surrounding the fact that that given my history of prior infection + desire for large implants, my case wasn't the easiest, but hence that's why I talked with him about these things over Skype in the first place. He was never under any obligation to perform my procedure, but at least he should have told me that he didn't think he was right for the job instead of wasting months of my time + money in having the CT scan sent to him (which by the way, the clinic hasn't sent back to me despite saying they would).
Bottom line is: this is a surgeon who will not tell you his thoughts directly and will hide his doubts or concerns from you. He will also ghost you and ignore your communications.
In turn, I dodged a silver bullet. Because had I gone forward with a surgery and had an adverse outcome, this is the type of communication I'd be left to expect.
I'm aware Dr. Kulbersh will eventually see this review. I just think he should know empathy and communication with patients go a long way. Surgery is not just about surgery; it's about real people too. I clearly wouldn't have chosen to go forward with a surgery had I not thought he was "nice enough" over Skype, but I just totally did not expect to get ignored/ghosted. Complete disappointment regarding empathy and communication from this surgeon.
