I was referred to him as a holistic MD. On his website he says that they work with the patient. I find that while he is knowledgeable he has very poor bedside manner and is quite arrogant. The staff is rude, abrupt and makes mistakes at your expense and screws up even the most basic of things like filling prescriptions. He DOES NOT work with you at all but rather dictates what you are to do rather than give you choices of how you want to treat your issue. Very disappointed. Will be looking for a different doctor. Take heed.

I can see why the comments here are as such. My wife has the same issue with his condescending attitude, especially towards a staff. Although I can see why, he presented himself to me like a fraternity "bro" demeanor. He spent an hour with me and wife during our first visit, ordered labs that a traditional docs wouldn't order; explained why the normal parameters on a bloodwork aren't really normal. My wife wouldn't go back to him as her PCP but I would since I'm very tired seeing doctors (eg. big hospital/corporate groups) who treats patients like they are on a conveyor. Bottomline, I feel bad that most reviewers have negative experience with but if we still live in NJ, I would go back to him as my provider -- it's not like Dr. Berk and I are drinking buddies.

I wanted to like Dr Berk, but he made it impossible. Arrogant, condescending and flip and what was left of the staff when I decided to go elsewhere was absolutely awful. In my time seeing him, there was a revolving door of staff and I can completely understand why - I cannot imagine working for such a beast . At my lowest point I was unable to drive and losing weight unintentionally due to my condition, and as I sat there clinging to hope, Berk actually said "You look like a heroin addict" ( I've never taken drugs in my life and never drank so not only was it insulting, it was cruel ) ..... Had Berk done something to help me, none of that would have mattered because all I wanted was to get my old self back ... The best decision I ever made was to break ties with Berk and go elsewhere - and it turns out that I wasn't such a complicated case after all ..... Thanks to another doc, I no longer look like a "heroin addict" ..... Please let my experience be of some value and go elsewhere

Dr. Berk cured the disabling chronic fatigue I was experiencing 5 years ago. More recently he saved my husband's life when unbeknownst to us he was dying of congestive heart failure.

Doctors that believe in holistic medicine and will admit that not all "modern medicine" is healthy and good for you are very hard to find. I was happy to find a doctor for my baby that agreed with my decisions and thoughts on her healthcare. His actual exam was rushed, but talking to him made me feel good about her health. I also saw him for myself, and while I agree he has terrible bedside manner, he ran tests to cover all my concerns . Tests that a standard doctor would never order unless I fought for them. He just doesn't make me feel comfortable and it's a shame. We need more doctors like him, but he seems to be scaring patients away instead of becoming more popular.

Terrible experience. Suggested supplements which interacted poorly causing great harm. Made many other incredible mistakes with my "care". Does not keep records. Insensitive. Staff is cruel at best. Never treated with kindness, always some sort of issue. Does not return calls or emails. Does not return calls to pharmacy to fill scripts. No matter who you speak with they are rude, ignorant and in a vicious mood.

My kids and I have been going to Dr. Berk for about 5 years. I'll agree with others that he can be rushed and a bit brusque from time to time, all of that is outweighed by how much he has helped us over the years. If you want someone to treat your symptoms, go to a regular family practice. If you want someone to take the time to figure out the root cause of your problem, so that you are not sentenced to a lifetime of prescription meds, then Dr. Berk is your guy. One of my kids was experiencing severe mood swings and depression at age 9. I knew from experience that if I took her to a family doctor, we would just walk out with a prescription. Dr. Berk took the time to uncover the root causes of her mood swings and then develop a plan to help her heal. I like that when we see him, he takes the time to get caught up - asking about what's going on our lives, at home, etc.. He loves to sit and chat with his patients, but he has to discipline himself so he stays on schedule. I think that's why he will abruptly leave sometimes. He's done that to me on occasion. However, if he sees that I have a list of questions with me, he will patiently stay with me until we've gone over the whole list. Unfortunately, he is not in my insurance network, so we can't go see him for everything, so we do use an in-network family practice for routine care, but anytime there is anything non-routine, I only trust Dr. Berk.

Dr. Berk is a rude, short, uncaring doctor. He refused to read my blood test that were four months old saying after 3 months they need to be redone! He could care less that I had knee surgery and it involved a very long recovery and due to that I was unable to make it into his office. He is very stuck on himself and thinks his rude answers are somehow funny....ugh so done with him!

Have to agree with the negative comments here. The only good thing was all the tests he ran that I wasn't aware of. He didn't explain the results well though and just left me confused and upset and on my own to research what was happening to me. He rushed thru the appts and barked sarcastic comments and left before I could ask all my questions. Not effective and very unprofessional.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the majority of the comments: rude, curt, sarcastic, leaves before I can ask questions, had not improved my health, told me to find another doctor when I asked a question about a supplement. His ego is the only thing bigger than his waistline and I'm not surprised someone's kids nicknamed him Dr. Jerk. That became my family's nickname for him too after I fainted while I was driving and crashed my car because of the medication he had me on. In conclusion, I am not any better, I totaled my car, and I spent way too much money on lab tests and supplements that did nothing for 4 months.
