I have been so fortunate to receive wise and experienced care from Dr. Tong. I am a Registered Nurse and have benefited in a completely holistic way from Traditional Chinese Medicine. In the first 6 months of treatment I dropped 65 pounds, hypertension resolved, insomnia improved, and the atrial fibrillation that brought me to Dr. Tong’s clinic was healed. Most recently, my cholesterol levels have normalized and I was able to avoid going on Statins. Our whole family now sees Dr. Tong. He truly illuminates a path to greater health and happiness. I am so grateful.

I only did one section, however he suggested herbal powder to me which seems not working for my issue. The herbal powder might not fit for everyone which he should know.

My review is in contrast to all the rave reviews here about this Dr Tong. I do not deny the good things he has done for other people. I speak for myself only. It is a bad experience. He comes off as very egotistical, condescending, and arrogant.

I went to him on Tuesday to see my migraines and other issues. The condition underlying my migraines is very unique which is called a kundalini awakening. I went because some people going through kundalini said TCM provides immense benefit for kundalini people. I did not tell him about kundalini during my 1st visit and I have legit reasons. For now I will just go through what happened. He talked about the cost on the phone. The price is pretty steep. And he told me "We charge more than others for a reason". Of course, you would think that he charges more because he has greater talent. Is that really the case? I wonder.

Upon seeing me, he told me to think through a few things first. He said "Ask yourself this question: Am I willing to spend 3000 or even 5000 dollars to get well? If the answer is yes, then come. If you always have to worry 'oh I have to pay so much' then don't come. Worrying about costs is like a knot. You need to untie that knot first."

This is the first red flag. All patients have the right to worry about costs. Especially when he charges $150 for the first visit (including diagnosis and acupuncture session) and 130 for each additional acupuncture session and none of it is covered by my insurance. And herb costs extra. And this guy is telling you if you want to seek his help you can't think about costs. If you do, he will reject you.

Then we did the acupuncture session. Then we sat down and he told me that my condition is very severe. That I needed to go to him for another session the very next day. This is the second red flag. I have consulted friends who said after an acupuncture session you need to wait a few days for the energy to settle to do another session. Can't do two in a row. He gave me a bottle of mixed herb powder which cost 70. And when I asked him what was in it he said he had no time to explain to me. I said OK. He told me how to take the herb powder. He also said since my immune system is so weak I needed to start taking several vitamin supplements. He then said he has all of these supplements in his store and asked me if I would purchase them. I said I would consider it. He brought out like 5 bottles and told me each of those costs 30 dollars. Considering the fact that I already paid 220 dollars for the visit, I gently rejected his offer and said I would purchase the vitamin supplements myself. He said fine.

Then the next day I texted him to schedule another appointment. He said they had events on that day and they are not taking patients. So I waited until the next Wednesday to make an appointment. He answered the phone and again said that there were things he wanted me to think through. He told me that because my condition is so severe what I need is intensive treatment, meaning I should go there twice or even three times a week. If I go there only once in a while it would not work for me. Then I told him I'm 95% sure that my condition is something he has never heard of (I mean I'm going through kundalini) and at this stage I'm just not sure that I trust him enough to tell him. Then he said then you should probably find somebody else, If you want to work with me you should come as often as I tell you to, otherwise it is a waste of time and money. Then I told him that I am very energy sensitive (Kundalini people are very energy sensitive BTW). Going there two or three times a week is not a good idea. It might result in an energy overload. Then he said he feels he can't work for me and I should find someone else. Then I told him I have never found anyone who is as arrogant and condescending as he is. He said he didn't mean to make me mad. Now he indeed saw that we are not right for each other, and I should find someone else. Then the called ended.

(I will explain a little bit why I don't like discussing kundalini with health/medical professionals. It is a spiritual thing, something way out of their comfort zone. If you tell them about your kundalini awakening, most likely they will think you have gone crazy. Or you are imagining something that doesn't exist. They will also probably pathologize kundalini, thinking something is seriously wrong with you. It takes time to build a trusting relationship for the patient to tell their healer about stuff like kundalini.)

So he is telling me if I seek help from him I have to accept all his terms. It cannot be on my terms. If I insist on my terms he outright rejects me. Overall I feel he is not treating me as his equal. I do not get the slightest feeling that he cares about me. All he seems to care about is having his own way to satisfy his huge fat ego. Plus his herb powder doesn't work. It gives me nausea.

But thank God, I will waste no more money on this guy.

I have been taking Prilosec for heartburn about ten years. digestion always is my issue: acid reflux, burning chest pain, stomach bloating, gases, diarrhea or constipated. Dr. Jianting Tong listened my story patiently, and answered all my questions professionally. He put few needles around my navel(no pain, that was surprised me) and some in legs and arms. He also gave me herbs, gave me some diet suggestions. Just three days after the first acupuncture, my burning chest pain much relieved, and I don’t have much acid! Now I have through 6 six sections total over a month period of time, I few fine, finally get over Prilosec, get over heartburn! my sleep much improved too, I feel much more energy each day! I have referred everybody in my office to Dr. Tong.

What a miraculous result! definitely credit to Dr. Tong!

My son was high school junior when he started seeing Dr. Tong. he had unexplained vomiting in the every morning. GI specialty doctor described drugs, it help some but not completely. A friend of mine recommend us to Dr. Jianting Tong. Scaring about the needles and skeptical to the result, my son was hesitate. quite ironically, the acupuncture treatment was not painful at all! after the first section, the next day morning there was no vomiting, just a little bit nausea. once a week acupuncture plus Chinese herbs “Formula A” for about one month, the vomiting had stopped completely! now the GI doctor has withdrawn the prescription medicine, and he is fine!

Dr. Tong explained to us that my son had anxiety, in Chinese medicine is liver qi stagnation over control the spleen. High school stress developed anxiety, long enough cause digestive symptom–vomiting. I do not much about Chinese medicine, that does not matter, it works! My son like that herbs, saying it help him calm down and can concentrate better on school study.

I was having right knee pain for about six months since I fell on the basketball court. My family doctor gave me pain pills and muscle relaxer. Although they did help to alleviate the pain, I still experienced some sporadic twitches in my knee,
especially whenever I exercised. Dr. Tong worked his ethereal magic, teaching me how to do knee exercise to incorporate the treatment. Just one section, I felt only slight pain left, after second section, my knee pain has completely gone! Amazing!! I wish I found Dr. Tong earlier! It is so wonderful not to have this nagging pain!
Due to work stress, I was having trouble falling asleep at night for a period of two months and I felt fatigue and could not concentrate during the work. Dr. Tong treated me with acupuncture and herbal medicine. I had much better sleep the first night after treatment and felt fresh next morning! Now I can fall asleep in a few minutes and sleep soundly through all night!”

I tried to make an appointment with this provider today. It was a HOT MESS. When I first called, I asked if the provider treated pregnant patients and if he was accepting new clients. The lady on the phone told me yes and I was offered a next day appointment. I was relieved and excited since I have an autoimmune condition which causes me SEVERE neuromuscularskeletal pain and I am unable to take my pain medication during my pregnancy.

I then tried to provide my insurance information to her. She was confused and asked if I had insurance to cover acupuncture. I assured her that I do have insurance, it DOES cover acupuncture and that I have already verified the provider is IN NETWORK with my Aetna Choice POS II network. She asked for my ID number. I tried to give it to her and she INSISTED that it should begin with a "W" for Aetna. I explained to her that is not correct and to please let me provide the information to her.

(NOTE: I have been in the medical field since 1993. The majority of my career has been in the revenue cycle including medical billing and coding. I have been billing insurance companies longer than this practice has been open).

I told her we would start from the beginning so that she could correctly verify benefits. I tried to provide her the Provider line on my card to verify benefits to and she interrupted me twice more. I was FINALLY able to tell her what number she needed to call and then provided her the member number. She didn't allow me to provide the group number, tell her that my husband is the primary card holder or provide his DOB (all which they will ask her when verifying benefits). I asked her to call me if she needed more information.

While I waited for her call back (because I knew she would need more information) I called my insurance company AGAIN. While I had already verified I had acupuncture coverage and the provider is in network, I didn't know my benefit limits. It was again confirmed that I have coverage, the provider is in network and I have 30 visits per year that cover EXACTLY what I need to see the provider for (neuromuscularskeletal pain).

I finally received the call back from her. She informed me that they couldn't accept my insurance because it's not "regular Aetna" and she can't look me up online. I asked her if she called to verify benefits and she repeated herself about not taking my insurance. I explained to her that I had already verified their contract is STILL ACTIVE with Aetna Choice POS II and that we should do a conference call to verify benefits. She went on to mumble something about they don't send paper claims, they only bill electronically and she couldn't look me up online (likely because her information was incomplete and her "electronic" filing is likely entering claim data into their web form and NOT electronic claim submission through a clearinghouse using the EDI number 41124). She told me to have Aetna call her. I asked her AGAIN if we could do a conference call with Aetna so that we are ALL on the line. She agreed.

I asked to call her back on my desk phone to accommodate the conference call; she agreed. I called her back and immediately conferenced Aetna in. We went through their automated system and at 3 min and 28 seconds it told us we were the next in line to speak with a representative. She then told me, I don't have the time to do this. SERIOUSLY? She couldn't wait 30 more freaking seconds to verify benefits?

I told her I would find another doctor, thank you and hung up.

I will find a practice that respects their patients and doesn't feel that 4-5 minutes of their time is TOO MUCH TIME to spend verifying benefits. I will also be calling the plan BACK (for a 4th time) and informing them of the providers refusal to see me as an in network patient within their practice (which is a violation of their contract with Aetna). Participating in network providers are required by contract to bill a patient's in network plan upon rendering services.

I'll find a provider that WANTS my business.
