Dr. Schwartz saved my husbands life, hands down. When my husband was admitted into the hospital after a ER visit where we thought he had covid-19 but turned out his left lung had collapsed due to a rare case of tuberculosis Dr. Schwartz stepped in and performed not one but two back to back Pleural Effusion's. Amazing Doctor/Surgeon/Man, this is the person you want in your corner and by your side when the stakes are high and your life is on the line. We quite literally owe this man our lives and are forever grateful to his and his team.

Of special significance to me is that Dr. Schwartz, during the surgery, and after receiving the pathologist report showing a narrow margin, decided to immediately return to the lung site and remove a wedge section of my upper right lobe. Now I am 2 years out with a clear scan.

Now I am 2 years out with a clear scan. I appreciated that Dr. Schwartz was able to answer all my questions. Prior to surgery Dr. Schwartz reassured me about the care teams qualifications and concern for me. Due to his reassurance, this allowed my immune system to perform better in recovery.
Dr. Schwartz has the skills needed to operate the robotic da Vinci Machine. The operation went smoothly and my recovery time was much shorter than I had anticipated.

Dr. Jess Schwartz is not known for his bedside manner. He is a shy man who can be curt, blunt and undiplomatic, especially when giving you his honest evaluation of the facts of your situation. He, however, is a brilliant surgeon who knows exactly what he needs to do in the OR and does it with great skill and finesse. He not only saved my life 6 years ago (I had a lung cancer) but after this huge surgery I only spent 3 days in the hospital postoperatively, I recovered quickly and the cosmetic result is sheer artistry! He follows me up conscientiously with annual appointments and I always know I will be given the truth of my condition when I speak with him (so far, so good
!). I highly recommend him to others when necessary and I do so now to anyone who appreciates excellence and honesty in surgical care. Thanks Dr Schwartz!

Dr. Schwartz cured my esophageal cancer. He is a no nonsense person, with a good sense of humor. He does not want to waste time babysitting or holding hands. He tells you what is necessary for success and expects a patient to comply as well as they can.
Staff, doctors and nurses at UNM Hospital were excellent and I could not have received better care before or after surgery.

Dr Schwartz has excellent clinical skills and judgment. He utilizes multiple well trained mid-level providers which is effective. He was honest with me about my condition, which was statistically rare.

The staff at the UNM Cancer Center clinic desk are curt and act like making an appointment is a huge hassle for them, whether you call or make an appointment in person. I have been to several appointments there and the AVERAGE wait time for me has been 2 hours; making early morning appointments doesn't help either. Dr. Schwartz himself has odd bedside manners, often comes into the appointment unprepared, and is borderline rude sometimes. However, he is knowledgeable and a good surgeon, and personally I'd rather have a skilled surgeon with poor bedside manners than vice versa.
