We had no choice in having Dr. Romero treat our daughter last year - wow, what a guy. Now just because a physician doesn't do anything illegal or unethical doesn't necessarily mean that they are still doing their job well. I won't get into the minutia of the whole experience but if we had the chance to do things over again, we would have walked right out of that ER. I guess to be fair to Dr. Romero, after 19 years of seeing people in pain and at their wits end, you must build up a kind of indifference to people and their troubles. In Mr. Romero's case whatever empathy he had going in to the medical profession has all but vanished. He minimally relays info to nursing staff and patients and is combative when asked for specifics. He's probably effective in an absolute life and death situation, but if you're stable and simply in pain and wishing you were dead - you'll get very little from this doctor when he's on duty. He's seems to be a "been there , seen that" kind of doc who doesn't have time for dialogue with patients or being part of an ER team. I suppose after 19 years you get the feeling you're beyond reproach or any kind of meaningful discipline. Readers be watchful and wary of Dr. Romero as this is typically an doctor's fatal flaw. Here's to hoping I am wrong.
