Dr. Crownover spent two minutes with me, gave me a diagnosis, had my hand put in a crudely constructed splint, and referred me to another doctor. Dr. Crownover billed these services as "surgery" and charged me nearly $1300. The following day, I saw the referral doctor who spent more time examining me than Dr. Crownover, gave me a better explaination of my options and expected outcome, and actually treated my condition. That doctor charged less than $250 for his services - more services that Dr. Crownover had performed, at five times less the cost. Unhappy about the billing by Dr. Crownover (including the lack of transparency of his services and fees charged), I made several unsucessful attempts to discuss the issue with his billing staff.
