Rude and condescending. Refused to provide a scheduled consultation, stating that he does not do hernia consultations, even though his Scripps page states that he diagnoses hernias and even though his assistant scheduled the visit as a consultation for potential hernia.
I went to see Dr. Takata for a consultation about a potential hernia. I found him through Scripps, where he advertises himself as "experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of ... simple and complex hernias." However, when I took valuable time off work to come and see him, he refused to do any diagnosis, saying that he does not do diagnosis, only surgery, and that I should instead go to my primary care physician. If that's the case, why advertise yourself as being experienced in "diagnosing" hernias? And why allow your staff to book an appointment for a hernia consultation when you don't do consultations?
Scripps page also says the following about Dr. Takata: "It is his goal to provide a sense of hope and comfort. He feels that the only way to accomplish this is to listen thoroughly to the patient’s story with compassion and understanding, with the goal of forming a trusted relationship. From here he can provide a clear and detailed treatment plan. Dr. Takata also provides each patient with the same superior and competent treatment that he would hope for his own family." All of this is false. He does not listen to your story with compassion and understanding and he does not provide any comfort, only condescending remarks. If this is how he treats his own family, I’m sorry to hear that.
Overall, I wasted two hours and $55 for a 5-minute visit, where Dr. Takata just sent me away to go see my primary care physician for a consultation about a potential hernia. As such, I would recommend you avoid him at all costs.
